That article had a typo stating that owners will be notified Aug. 8th. I think it meant July 8th.
Bizarre assumption for you to make. The recall was just announced today. That means they still need to locate the mailing address of 100,000 registered owners, and then print, mail, and have delivered 100,000 formal notices of the recall. If you check your mailbox today, you won't find this recall notice in there. You'll find it in your mailbox sometime within the next month, because physical mail is slow.

It says that in the event of an Engine Failure oil and fuel may come into contact with an ignition source and cause fire. I think just about any engine failure that is bad enough to cause oil and fuel to come out of the engine will cause a fire, not just the 2.5 Hybrid. Think of all the engine failures in say NASCAR, most of those leave a trail of oil or fuel that is on fire. I still think the Hybrid is the way to go, Ford and others have had too many problems with small turbo charged engines, especially GDI engines. That's one of the big reasons I went Hybrid.
They're claiming it's "rare" with 0.17 instances per 1,000 vehicles. The recall action is to provide better drainage of the fuel vapor and/or oil, and increase ventilation. That way, if you're the unlucky 17 in 100,000 whose crankshaft does cause the engine to fail, it'll at most seize up and tear itself apart but not catch fire.

Basically they're just trying to decrease the likelihood a defective crankshaft leads to engine fire. They claim crankshaft-induced engine failure is "rare" in the first place.

Dang, only American vehicles? What about the ones in Canada LOL
Canada is a big empty place so fires aren't a concern unless it is summer and in a forest. Then it becomes a different story.

Not an assumption. This was in my Ford account and it was actually dated 7/7/22

Picked up my brand new Maverick Wednesday, and I'm waiting in line to enter the service dept for this Engine Fire hazard recall. They wanted to turn me away for not having an appointment. Wife reminded me I'm within the lemon law return period.
I doubt they would be too concerned if you wanted to give it back.

Fords little Hybrid system has been pretty bullet proof for quite some time now. My daughter is on her 3rd. 2006 Escape 180k was totaled but no real issues, 2011 Escape 165k was totaled again no real issues, now a C-MAX. if she can keep people from hitting her... hopefully this one will also be as good.

This was the main reason I went the Hybrid way for my Maverick. Due in September I hope

Yes, it is.

The recall being issued for the vehicle is not formal notice of the recall.

NHTSA requires you to receive written correspondence notifying you of this recall.

That written correspondence is not arriving in your mailbox today.

It will arrive in the next month.

Not that hard to understand. 🤷‍♂️

Vehicle Recalls: Frequently Asked Questions - NHTSAhttps://www.nhtsa.gov › pdf › Recalls-FAQ

Manufacturers are also required to notify owners by mail within 60 days of notifying NHTSA of
a recall decision.

So, what exactly does this mean... Anyone?
The way I read it is that they'll drill holes in the plate under the engine (the one that makes it difficult to change oil) to let the leaking fluids drain out - no fluids, no fire.

Just saw a new Maverick recall notice came out. https://www.newsmax.com/finance/str...threat-escape-maverick/2022/07/08/id/1077921/

The new recall covers certain 2020 through 2022 model year Ford Escape, Maverick and Lincoln Corsair vehicles with 2.5-liter Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid engines. Ford said in the event of an engine failure, significant quantities of engine oil and fuel vapor may be released that could accumulate near ignition sources resulting in a potential under-hood fire.

Well I guess since my Maverick Hybrid is sitting at the dealer's lot cuz someone stole the catalytic converter while in transit, I should just keep it there for the recall. I ordered my Maverick the third week of July....last year and it won't have the catalytic converter put in until August. I've lost all my excitement about getting this truck. Bring on the recall.

Not that I understand this whole recall business, but I called up the dealership about the recall and now have an appt. for 7/21 to get it fixed. I just gave them my VIN and manufacturer's recall number from the NHTSA's site, since the recall is also listed there.

In Canada the fire is sold as a feature, not a hazard
