I have a 2001 Ford Ranger with the chip in the key and I had a dummy key made in case the chip key got locked in the truck. My questions are can I lock my Maverick XLT key/fob in the truck? Can I get a dummy key made without the remote on it? As a backup in case the key/fob gets locked in the truck.

Just remember to program your drivers-side SecuriCode Keyless-Entry Keypad, then use it to lock and unlock the truck.

I picked up my xlt last Sat. I only got one key/fob. My salesman said ford would be sending me another set. Is that consistent with others who have picked theirs up?

Make sure you get it in writing..... if you didn't go back and have them do it before the 7 days return period passes.

I did get front carpeted mats which I quickly replaced with the weathertech knockoffs from ebay.

As a locksmith I hear this story everyday. Dealerships as well as salespeople themselves sell the extra keys/fobs to companies that reset the electronics, replace the case as needed and market them as " new oem". One of the larger ones - https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/ on a new car certainly 2 remotes is standard.

I also heard this story from locksmith near my office and his opinions are the same as you mentioned above about the dealerships.

When I picked up my XL, I got two key fobs. Last week, my main set of keys decided to go on an adventure and I never saw them again. I called our local dealer today and was told that it will cost almost $500 Canadian ($400 U.S. approx) to get a new key. This is outrageous!!! For that kind of money, you would think that FORD would have placed a GPS tracker in the key fob. At least that way, you can locate your keys when they are lost. This is a big cash grab by the automotive industry. It is estimated that 20 million keys are lost in the U.S. every year. If you multiple that by approx. $300 U.S. for each lost key, that would be $6,000,000,000. There must be another way to get your keys replaced that is easier on the bank account.

It's BS. Someone in his shop has the other one and is planning on stealing it off your driveway when you're least expecting it.

A friend of mine had his Toyota Supra stolen off the dealer lot while it was in for service. I can guarentee you it was an opportunity someone in the dealership couldn't pass up.

We got 2 fobs and manuals with both of ours. My wife's is an XLT so the key is part of the fob and mine is a Lariat that is keyless and push to start.
