All three of the Mavericks I have on order are AWD EcoBoosts. None of them are scheduled yet. Due to the wait time I ended up having to buy a different vehicle. I needed something by mid-May. That seemed reasonable when I ordered in January, but now there is no chance I will have a Maverick by then. I ended up settling on a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. All RAV4 Hybrids are AWD, so that aspect of my driving needs is covered.

I live in North Carolina. We don't get much snow and I don't generally drive off-road on purpose. I don't need my Maverick to be AWD for any particular reason. I'm considering changing my orders to FWD to save the $3305 the AWD costs (plus no FX4, so I would be saving there too).

So, I'm looking for experience with the EcoBoost FWD. Any input?

Thanks!

Also in NC and have a fwd ecoboost. Also didn’t see a need for 3000 ford awd. I love the truck so far and have had it for a month. Def happy w my choice and don’t regret it at all. Plus my Saab is the fun winter car if/when we get snow

The EB engine still adds $1,085 to the base trim price. AWD adds $2,220. So if you still want the EB, you save $2,220 plus FĂ—4 package.

If you're going ecoboost, not getting the 4K tow package (and thus AWD) seems like a major misstep.

Keep in mind you're not just getting AWD. You're also getting upgrades to the rear suspension and things like a transmission cooler and a better radiator/cooling fan. I can't predict how those items will affect long term durability but I expect they sure won't hurt.

I expect that presence or absence of 4k tow is going to have an outsized affect on resale value and general desirability.

Personally, I would want the more capable truck... but I also wouldn't order 3 of them so obviously your circumstances are a bit different than mine.

Good point, still a significant savings, but not as much as I thought.

You have a good point about the 4k tow package. I don't have it on any of my orders, primarily because I don't have a trailer and don't expect to ever have one. However, the extra durable components would be nice.

I should be clear that I am not actually going to buy three Mavericks. I placed all these orders when there was no rhyme nor reason to how Ford was selecting orders for build; pick the right dealer, get a production date 2 weeks after ordering, pick the wrong one and still be waiting in six months. I placed 3 orders at three different dealers hoping to actually get one built in a timely fashion. Three months later and no build dates, oh well.

So, the question I have to ask myself, and folks here, is does the AWD/4k Package/FX4 increase the value $3-4k if I sell or trade it in a few years? Does it matter if I keep it for 10 years and never tow anything?

I'm also wondering how the FWD 2.0 drives as compared to the AWD version.

No issue with the FWD EB. The engine is strong, the transmission is good. The throttle programming is clearly setup so there is basically no torque steer and very little spinning of the tires even at full-throttle launch.

I'd recommend it in the south.

My dealer told me they are not able to change my order to just FWD, there was a constraint in the system preventing it.

Exactly the same rationale for me to take 4K. I was thinking that I might change to an EV at certain point of the useful lifespan of the Maverick so I wanted it to be desirable/useful for the next owner.

Sorry to hear you could not change your order. I ordered a XL EB FWD 1/5/22 and it was built 3/9/22. I placed the order with no options to expedite the build. I could not justify the additional cost for AWD and 4K towing since it still does not make a good tow rig. I have other 3/4 ton trucks to pull trailers with. The main reasons I went with the Maverick was the low MSRP and the great fuel mileage. I wanted the Hybrid but was past the order deadline. Still not disappointed with the 30 MPG on the EB and traditional transmission. I expect the Maverick FWD to be as good as any other FWD here in the snow, so that was another bonus for this compact pickup. Everyone should get what fits your needs best.

I needed/wanted, all wheel drive. for slippery boat ramps here in Florida .Here is the thing I dont have 4k tow didnt need it ,I am towing 1500lb boat with trailer on occasion not every day. AWD is intelligent AWD ,so when you put the AWD screen up in the dash screen, it shows you if it is operating in all wheel drive , unless your rear wheels are slipping you are operating in FWD 95% of the time so it is basically there when you need it.

At least on my vehicle, the display shows my Maverick engages power to all four wheels until I hit about 20-30MPH, at which point the FWD takes over and it kills power to the rear wheels.

I'm no expert on used car valuations but I predict that you're likely to see substantial differences in pricing between the 4K tow trucks and those without.

FX4 is less clear. If you also option the 4k tow (which has a lot of crossover with the featurres FX4 package brings) the only real worthwhile upgrade is the bigger driver display screen. IMO the tow-hooks, chintzy skid plates and drive modes are things that 95% of drivers will never need or use. The bigger radiator/fan and suspension are good but already included with the 4k.

Unfortunately you are correct, or at least my dealer agrees with your dealer. ;)

So, looks like if I get a 2022 Maverick it will be an AWD EcoBoost. I have added the 4k tow package to two of my orders because I think it makes sense for overall durability and resale value despite the fact that I will likely never tow anything. I will be adding it to the remaining order as soon as the dealer for that order gets back to me. For $745 it really does make sense to get it.

If I end up having to reorder a 2023 because Ford can't get it together I will probably switch to the Hybrid. It is cheaper and with the RAV4 any limited possible use I could have for an AWD vehicle is already covered.

Yep, besides you never know when you will need to tow, that is the benefit of having a pickup to begin with, the capability. That should carry over to resale value down the road. From what I have seen with the FX4 package on F150's and Rangers is that they similarly tend to hold their value better.
