I just drove 650 miles from Allentown, PA to Knoxville, TN.
Since I've been running 88oct %15 ethanol and was curious if other octanes would yield different results in a pure highway setting.
I was fill 1/2 tank and tried various octane...
88 oct 15% eth = 32.4mpg
93 Oct 10% eth = 31.4mpg
89 Oct 0% eth = 33.1mpg
87 Oct 10% eth = 32.8mpg
Cruising 70-75mph for all of the above.
I was satisfied that there was no appreciable difference and didn't continue this the full round trip.
I also didn't want to do full tanks for both cost and time. So this is based on my trip meter only, not hand calculating at the pump.
Take it for what it's worth, but I think you're driving style & conditions outweighs gas type to the point of it mattering when it comes to mpg.
As for longevity / maintenance, who knows. Thankfully I'll be putting only about 6k a year on. So I'll see others high mileage issues reported with possibly enough time to change my behavior if necessary. My previous auto experience tells me it's all splitting hairs.
