Budget stock Audio upgrades (XL) - plan, research, options and experimentation

It’s essentially a bass blocker…. Resistors in line and then a cap on the actual speaker to cut off frequencies below what I assume to be somewhere in the 600-800hz range

So, if I'm replacing the stock speakers (with Kicker 43DSC404) would I need to consider an in-line blocker of some sort?

If you’re sending a lot of power to them it’s not a bad idea, if just stock power, ehhhh…. It wouldn’t hurt but not necessary

Then I’ll say the answer is if you want to absolutely protect your speakers back there, 600hz bass blockers/caps on them will do that, and they’re cheap enough.
I have THESE but didn’t end up using them on my 4x6s…. You just connect one in line on the positive lead.

Not sure why Amazon links do that…. They’re PAC ones, but the crutchfield ones will definitely do the trick

Thank you. Amazon has Pac ones, but the ones I see for 4" speakers are spec'd at "4 ohms: 0-1200 Hz", those be ok?

Since we're discussing the rear speaker, it would be great to have a good photo tutorial on how to not break any plastics getting those panels off. I get the basics, push it up until the slot/clip align, but the more guidance the better. No need to add unnecessary rattles.
It needs to be a sticky too.

I broke all the tabs lol. Thankfully i have a plastic welder and got them all fixed up and even added material in the weak spots.

Yeah, I've got a cheap one (plastic welder) that Eastwood used to sell packed away somewhere, but I hope it's not a foregone conclusion that I must use it.

I'm probably wrong, those rear panels seem to challenge most everyone. I assume the Morels were worth the effort?

On the radio they sound really good, but im going to run all new wire and power them with an amp. Today i will gather mdf for the amp rack and some other miscellaneous materials i need. Still trying to get a harness ordered.

I’ll try to work on something because I may take the driver side panel back off again… I’ve taken the tan panels off at least 3 times and haven’t broken one yet *knock on wood*.

I'm actually thinking about some Polk db402's for the rear. I had a set of Polk 3-1/2's (amplified) in the dash of a '16 CX-5 with Kicker KS 6.5's in both the front and rear doors. Those soft-dome tweeters in the Polk 3-1/2's complimented the Kickers very well. Very smooth.

I've gotten a few more PM's from forum members requesting the LLJ Customs part number for the DIY harness. Since they typically "build-to-order" with many customization options, there doesn't appear to be an encompassing part-number, but below is what I selected and ordered:
