Automotive News reports that Ford told dealerships on Saturday that they plan to sell vehicles without chips for some non-safety features, with plans to install them in the already-sold cars within a year.
I say go for it Ford....makes some sense to me. I'd rather have delivery now and return to the dealership in the future for the needed parts......you're probably going for service (warranty or regular service anyway)!

Exactly. I would NOT! It's bad enough waiting for the truck in the first place. Imagine the annoyance of EVERY DAY driving a truck you know is INCOMPLETE and you know at this point, Ford has already taken your money and there is literally nothing you can do to make them get the chips to you. Sounds terrible!

I mean, in that case, I'd much rather have a COMPLETE, stripped down XL than a Lariat with no heated seats, no bedliner and no CoPilot 360. I just can't imagine paying for all those things and driving off the lot without them.

I will say this: the more you see of this "chip shortage" at Ford, the less there is to like.
I had a Ford Fusion with one of the bad airbags. It took almost two years to get that replaced.

The photos accompany the tweet are from NADA. I’m curious why Ford would give this information “to dealers” at such a large event where leaks are everywhere and not every dealer is present.

But I don’t doubt it’s truth. Stupid world we live in right now.

Actually they're all billable hours to install chips so.........yes.
Yeah, I get that, but what a logistical nightmare. I'm sure there's a shortage of qualified mechanics just like everything else now.

So, let me get this straight. I sign paperwork committing to a loan for full MSRP and will not be getting what I am paying for, then waiting for an undetermined amount of time until what I have paid for can be used? In the meantime, Ford gets full sale price??

Sounds absolutely wonderful!! I just love Ford’s new sales model!!!

That's the first few lines of the article and the headline.....can you post anymore of the article and their source for this info? My guess is you can't because it's hidden behind a paywall which is shady AF.
I don’t think that Tim Bartz would have retweeted this if it was not true. The article appeared on trade journals and you always pay for access. My concern is the definition of non safety components. Heated seats - okay Co-Pilot not okay.

Seems like a tactic to get those MY22 orders built during MY22. That could save Ford a lot of money by not having to honor and build MY23 trucks for MY22 prices. 🤔

I’ld be ok with this as long as there is some buyer protection to assure we get what we paid for or some sort of compensation.

I guess this explains why the vehicle I have a reservation on has been 'in production' since 1/12/22.

Ok take 2,000 off until the chips are installed and working . Ford ships unfinished trucks and I hold back the money until the truck is 100% .The warranty absolutely should be extended for the length of time it takes Ford to install the chips .

Hey! @fordmotorcompany

I suggest you guys come out with a real plan to compensate owners upfront for paying you to provide them with NEW vehicles that are not fully operable at time of delivery.
I think that IF Ford implements this plan that it's a win-win for all, Ford/Dealrships and the customer. It will relieve the backlog of outstanding orders, those parked in lots waiting for silicon/parts and relief to their customers. Like I said in a previous post it's a minor inconvenience to customers to go back and have those parts installed. The only problem I see is a delivery shortage of rail/trucks and drivers.......
