I saw, in the fine print, somewhere on the information of the hybrid that the 40 something miles per gallon was with premium fuel. What, a 13 gallon tank and 10 cents more per gallon, $1.30 more per tank..........I'm going for it.
..
No way. Use what fuel you like, but using premium fuel in the MAV hybrid is a waste of money.

One guy put a full tank of 91 in his Hybrid and said the MPG went up by 1.

Unless you're driving to/through Vegas in the middle of the summer or towing something over 1500lbs, I would stick with 87. It would be really cool if we could use Flex Fuel E85 in the Mav considering it's a dollar cheaper a gallon.

Premium costs a lot more than 10 cents per gallon more than regular.

1 mpg over what was probably only 300-500 miles isn't even useful, statistically. One day of being in a bad mood can cause bigger swings in MPG than that.

It would be, though Flex Fuel makes me nervous for some reason. Maybe because I've never owned a vehicle that could actually run it. Cheaper gas would be wonderful though.

Ford Maverick 2.5 hybrid engine requires Premium Gasoline? 8DF3205F-BCC1-476F-AAF0-602918762D86

That's for the 2.0L Ecoboost, which is documented elsewhere specifically as "87, unless..."

The 2.5L Hybrid drinks 87. Maybe if the hybrid had the 4K tow package Ford would suggest 91 while under load, but we don't have to worry about that.

That page is not specific to the 2.0. Everything I have read and Googled says both engines will “operate” on 87 however Ford “recommends premium“ for both engines. I’m running 91+ in mine.

Sorry no link but Google July 2019 Car and Driver regular gas vs premium. They tested 3 cars and a Ford 150 using both grades. One of the cars was a BMW M5 and another was a Dodge Charger. Net was don’t waste your money on premium except for the Ford F150.

Hybrids will enjoy ethanol-free fuel, if you're looking for the best gas. Mileage improvement will not pay for itself, but it's the secret to really long distance tanks.

Have fun spending several thousand dollars more on fuel over the course of the vehicles life for no benefit what so ever. Premium fuel has no more energy per gallon than regular 87 octane. However, ethanol free fuel DOES contain more energy per gallon than regular (10% ethanol) fuel.

I just found it again, but I can't copy and paste it. It's in one of the brochures advertising the various Mavericks and the gas milage they are supposed to get. What ever the brochure was its in the fine print , bottom left, I think page 4, in fine print. It said something to effect of horsepower and etc.

I don't know about you or about what kind of vehicle you have but I can guarantee that in my "many" trips back east from California, in my Chrysler V8, I got better milage and performance when I ran ethyl (that's what us old folks use to call premium gas and the gas use to have lead in it)😅

Ethanol has about 67% of the energy density of pure gasoline.

That said, that doesn't mean you're going to get 33% more power or mileage out of it. The average gasoline engine only uses about 20-30% of the energy it gets from burning gas, and you end up pumping a bunch of energy out the tail pipe in the form of exhaust no matter what you do.

I you're talking about some trips in the good old days you are probably correct. We only starting blending 10% ethanol into motor fuels in the last few decades
