First off - I have had my Lariat Lux Hybrid for just over a month and I am thrilled with it!

My first question is regarding the regenerative braking: I have noticed when I am coming to a VERY gradual stop when I get down to about 6-8 mpg that the braking seems to grab and it actually acts like I had slammed on the brakes bringing me to almost a complete stop. Is this a typical thing for the regenerative braking system or should I bring it in to have it looked at?

Second - not just for the hybrid but I have driven about 1800 miles so far. Each of my fill-ups has been almost exactly 2 mpg lower when calculated than the vehicle data is showing. I drive about 85% freeway and I have gotten between 31 and 32 mpg and it reads 33-34mpg. Are others finding this or am I one of the few that checks t see if it is accurate?

Thanks for your input!

If I understand what you are saying you get to 6-8 mph and the car automatically slams on the brakes? No not normal. Regeneratibe brakes can be a bit touchy. It took me a bit of a learning curve on the wife’s Hybrid Camry. Slow speed braking and they would grab. I learned with a light foot. The wife never had a problem.

on the mpg think rolling mpg vs. overall. I am not sure how the Maverick computer tracks. Your way is the more accurate way imho.

It is more of a hard grab of the brakes - yes!

The "grabbing" is the hand off between regenerative braking and the friction brakes. I've noticed it a little when it's actually been above freezing here.

On my Fusion Hybrid the handover from regen to friction braking is very grabby especially when the brakes are wet.

Yes, you're feeling the hand-off from regen to friction brakes. It's normally not intrusive.

My Escape reads 5% high on the dash display, compared with the pump. The C-Max was the same.

If you really think the computer on the dash will be accurate you have never owned a car that had mpg estimated on a display would be my guess. I have had a few and even on motorcycles. Not one is accurate. I don't expect Ford has found the magic key to accuracy yet.

As far as going from regen braking to regular braking I have not had any problems with my 2016 Prius or my new Maverick in almost 1600 miles. I do experience increased regen braking with the L button pushed in on both. On my 2016 Volt all regen braking ended when car speed reduced to 2 mph.

As in every one I have owned I also press on the brake lightly (out of habit) while stopping a little even though it is also doing regen braking. I prefer to not run in L mode.

I have the same braking feel in mine right at the very end of deceleration, I dislike that grabbiness too. I have to be verrrrry subtle with my braking micro adjustments to stop somewhat smoothly. I wonder if a software update could help out with that in the future. I don’t see why there needs to be a handoff from regen to normal brakes until you’re literally stopped. I’d be curious to know more about that.

Yes this is part of the regenerative braking and it’s really been a time for me to get use to it. I have found the computer MPG is off a tad, I’ve run a few tanks and they all varied just a tad bit, but on average pen/paper figure was 1 to 1.5mpg worse than the computer.

I don't think a software could fix it other than maybe have friction brakes engage for a moment at higher speed to "clean" them (but that would reduce regen). I've noticed the grab when it's been above zero and there is moisture in the air, so the rotors/pads are sticky. With all-friction braking systems you don't notice the stickiness because the brakes engage with more kinetic energy, but when the brakes only engage at like 5mph it will be more noticeable.

I haven't noticed 1.
I have noticed 2. My 3 fill ups have all been about 2mpg under the computer estimate. I hear this is typical with Fords.

Just a note about something weird.

The opening post shows up on my computer as white text on a white background. (So... invisible)

If I select the text (highlighting it) then I can read it. Otherwise it looks like a blank post.

Anyone else seeing that? Or is it just my system/browser/monitor/eyes?
