Conversation today with Ford and my dealer (not good)

I think you two may have misread the OP's post.

He's not complaining about delays. (Which seems to be what bothers you.)

He's asking if what his dealer told him -- that no more XLTs or Hybrids will be built this year if they are not already scheduled for production -- is true or not.

so let's follow this thru. If true that no more will be built if not scheduled then there will likely be about 50K orders unfilled and when the order banks open in august for the next round nobody in their right mind would order one of those models unless they were good with waiting two years to get theirs and there are 50K ahead of them and Ford is totally unreliable and has no idea how to run a car company. It's ridiculous.

I spoke with my dealer yesterday, and he was assured by Ford that all his orders would be fulfilled this model year. He has 42..22 of which are hybrids. I would consider them a mid-size dealer in a college town. He also told me he has 4 being scheduled next week, but he doesn't show which are being built yet. He won't know that until a few days prior (to Thursday) when they start looking at the builds. On a side note, he also tried to change mine to priority 10..but it was changed back to 19 by ford. The point is, this keeps popping up in this forum every week. Ford as a company is not trying to screw anyone. They are doing their best under the current landscape. Dealers...that's a different beast. There are some bad dealers out there making up a lot of stuff trying to maximize their profits. If someone is that put off by a dealer, find a new dealer, and wait for a MY23.

OP, my advice to you is to sit tight. Delays suck and the parts issues don't help anything. My original order was in June and I changed it in July. I'm scheduled to be built the week of 3/7. My final order is a hybrid Lariat with the luxury package. My build is HIGHLY constrained.

I also work for a DME provider so I'm VERY familiar with what the parts shortage is doing right now. When medical companies can't get chips to make machines, car companies are going to have a hard time as well.

Okay, I rarely put the tin foil hat on, but here's something to think about.

What if I told you these posts by people who have very few of them could be from dealers trying to get people to cancel their order and get their deposit back? Then the dealer can sell the truck that's already being built for a fat ADM.

Would it require the dealer to be absolutely horrible and unethical? Yes.

As we've seen, there are some who are.

My understanding is that some dealers have told customers that they didn't need to put down a deposit which may or may not be the case, however, if you put down a deposit, you have a better chance of Ford contacting you directly with information than if you need to rely on the dealership. Feds get a bit frisky when a FTC regulated company takes in money for a product and doesn't deliver.

This suggestion -- that no more trucks will be scheduled -- comes up fairly regularly. It usually tracks back to something a dealer told a customer.

So far at least, it has always turned out to be misinformation or a misunderstanding.

You're missing the point. The point is that FORD screwed this nice man by making a truck that is too popular.

The obvious solution is to buy a truck that is less desirable.

They won’t all get built, but a lot of them will. No one from Ford would assure him that they all get built. It has been a rough couple of years.

Ford does not receive any deposit given to the dealer. That is kept by the dealer. A good dealer will not require a deposit and will still have good communication from Ford. My dealer ask for no deposit, ordered on x plan and email confirmation from Ford was received within an hour of leaving the dealership. Then I was scheduled 2 weeks later. Granted, I was moved 2 weeks back the following week. Point being, Ford, with all the parts delays, is having a hard time filling orders. The dealers are not helping matters by giving out false information and some trying to profit off this misinformation. JMO

For those compiling the 'February Survey', I:

a) am not pissed off (or perturbed, mildly agitated or somewhat dissapointed ...)
b) did not put down a deposit on a 'non binding' order (but did provide my Drivers License, cell phone and email address)
c) am in Ford's system, confirmed 3 separate times via phone, a number that doesn't include the "Dear Future Maverick Owner" FITS-in-your-future email
d) knew this Order would take a long, indeterminate, time...in the best of circumstances
e) will keep the Order, unchanged and as entered, which keeps the entertainment value very high

There is no f), at least not today! On to the day...

I've lurked this forum for months to get some insight into when my truck might be built and delivered and found it comforting I'm not the only one that has wondered just wtf is going on at Ford. Anyway, I finally called Ford corporate today to see if they had any status on the Maverick XLT Hybrid I ordered last October from a local dealer and which Ford had long ago confirmed via email. The Ford rep told me that parts delays were a problem but are now mostly resolved and it's now transportation from rail yards to dealers that is the major bottleneck. The Ford rep assured me that the truck will be built and delivered within the next few months and they will fill all confirmed orders. They told me to contact my dealer and get a few pieces of info to better determine where I stand in their allocation.

So, I call my dealer and am informed that they just received notice from Ford this morning that no more XLTs or Hybrids will be built this year if they are not already scheduled for production. WTF!! I told my sales rep what Ford had just told me this morning, which is 100% the opposite of what the dealer had just told me and they had no explanation. I plan to call Ford again tomorrow to see what they say in response to what my dealer told me.

My dealer has been keeping me posted on the status regularly and I have no reason to believe they are lying since my sales rep told me she had to make about 10 bad calls to other customers today.

I was hesitant to buy a Ford to begin with, so if it turns out Ford has indeed screwed us, I will never consider them again. What a cluster.

Maybe, Just maybe, the dealer wants you to drop the order so they could sell it at a higher price. Maybe one of the salesperson is going to buy it and sell it privately at a 5-10 thousand markup.
Just speculation of course.
