This may be way off but Normal mode is the left-most drive mode in the display cluster and the truck always defaults to that mode... I wonder if there is a way to move the eco mode into that left-most slot using forscan and, if you did, I wonder if it would default to that.

There is not.

Uh NO. It doesn't do that at all.
OK, mine in eco does this: floor it at 65 mph, count 1,2 and then go baby go. Probably 2/10 of a second after the potentiometer is opened until the torque from the traction motor hits the ground.

This feels like a big oversight by Ford. Also a big deal since Tow/Haul resets every time as well when you're towing. Big power difference needed when you're pulling 1500 or so pounds with the hybrid.

I would guess that they are more concerned about people leaving the vehicle on a drive mode that isn't good. What happens when someone forgets it on Mud mode and then someone else drives it around for 6 months like that?

"Normal" gives the best experience and is always an ok choice. They will always reset it to "normal".

Just remember how many button presses to get to the mode you want. Right now I've been using sport so I just hit the button 5 times quickly when I put my seatbelt on...takes less than 1sec.

I agree that the truck should not default to modes that aren't appropriate for the conditions--such as the "mud" example that you provide.

But normal isn't objectively the "best experience." For many of us, eco is the best experience. For some, sport may be the best experience. Neither of those modes will cause issues or problems, so there isn't a good explanation for why they can't be left as the default modes.

Eco feels laggy and unresponsive at times.
Sport holds higher RPMs which sounds noisy and adds an engine braking effect.

Both of these things would be perceived as an issue by most vehicle buyers.

98% of the customers for a low end vehicle are probably not going to even use the drive modes thing after the first day. When I say "best experience", I'm talking about for the majority of customers. The enthusiasts on this forum are a very small group compared to the target audience for this vehicle.

I've seen 3 mavericks on the road where I got the driver's attention. 2 of them didn't even seem to realize I was driving the same vehicle as them.

I'm really not sure why you feel the need to defend something that many people don't like. But I'm glad that normal is good enough for you--although I'm not sure that you can fairly claim to speak on behalf of "98% of customers."

I was the first person to figure out how to add more selectable drive modes on the maverick because I wanted sport mode so much on my FX4 and now just tap the SDM button 5 times when I on my seatbelt. I think you are missing the point of my posts and I am not explaining myself very well. Good luck with your requests.

At least we can agree that driving modes are good. Alas, I suspect no amount of luck is going to help anyone set a different default.

Easy way to solve it would be to pop up the screen what mode you're in when the vehicle starts and have a simple "press OK to switch to normal mode" when it's not already in normal. If it is in normal it would not show anything after the truck screen.

Towing is a very big deal in terms of power compared to normal mode.

Also, modes like Slippery alters how the regenerative braking works to essentially just use the standard brakes with abs. Sport and eco has mostly, what I noticed, is rpm of the engine for power. And tow/Haul basically never runs just on the electric. The engine runs the moment you put it in drive. That's a big deal when you're close to the 2000 limit.

I can also say for an AWD with 4k tow package you get the best MPG with a trailer attached when you use the tow/haul mode.

Well as another cheap basta** I would like the ECO mode on all the time. I like the regen braking and the speed is fine for the driving I do. We are in the moment of gas most likely reaching 2$ a liter in Canada by June and I want to get the most from each tank pressing the mode every time I get in is not ideal I do it cause I have no other choice but it would be better to have certain modes stay on after turn off and back on. Anyway my two cents I hope ford reads these and makes a change to the software to update the drive modes.

Is there a way that we could all combine our request and send it to Ford? Bombard them with many, MANY requests along their social media, email, and any other outlets? It's easy to ignore a few people in the comments section of a video or the odd email, but a ton of pressure all at one time might get their attention.

A bunch of requests probably means little when it affects the EPA rating and how much Ford might have to pay/offset for CAFE standards.
