Good question for this format "truck"

I was very surprised the first time I drove a crew cab ( true 4 door) long bed F250 because at fairly high speed on unpaved back roads, the ass end did NOT come out from under me as I had expected. My normal strategy for loose surface curves, I usually drifted through with steering and throttle control. The crew cab now just tracked through the curve. I attributed this to better weight distribution.

Back in the 80~90s I tended to own 2 kinds of vehicles, Sports cars and big trucks. In both cases I was always interested in Under steer or Over steer.

So a lot of words to say: I do not recall, in ALL the reading I have done on the Maverick, any mention of this.

I'm coming from a Honda CR-V to the Maverick. Everything is fine except parking. I just can't quite nail it in one try about half the time. Muscle memory or something. I drive a school bus at work. No problems with that so I don't know what is going on.

I learned to drive alternating between motorcycles ( Honda cl360 ) , VW Rabbit, some station wagon, and a truck. Being a very new driver I still only found it a minor change in mindset between them. They all drive differently but worst I recall was accidentally pegging the brake on the wagon trying to hit the clutch it didn't have. After driving a while the vehicle becomes an extension of yourself and the difference is like going from swimsuit to bulky Winter gear.

I had to get used to having 4 doors instead of just two with my maverick. I still can't stop pressing the back windows when I mean to press the fronts, or trying to open the back doors and forgetting they are still locked. lol. As far as size goes, I think most people should be fine, does sit up higher than a traditional car though if coming from a sedan as a daily.
isn't there a setting that you can adjust so when you click the unlock key fob it unlocks all doors? I could do that in my Escape.

Driven smaller cars and a jeep patriot all my life.

I know the mav is longer than your typical vehicle. Do you think the size and shape will take getting used to? Or will it feel more like a normal vehicle than not?

Not talking ride quality, but rather turning reversing etc.
It should be just like driving the Escape.

What is there to learn?

I would say the biggest adjustment is for folks to stop calling it a car. It's a truck.

Really, every time you change vehicles, there is a "learning curve" for adapting to the differences. Size of the vehicles is just one aspect of many. Shape plays an odd roll, especially when backing up. The more square/straight sided a vehicle is, usually it's easier to back straight with mirrors.

I've only done a quick 10 minute test drive in a Mav, but found it very intuitive and comfortable, as compared to the Honda Pilot I'm currently driving. My F150, while large, was super easy to maneuver, due to the square shape, great mirrors, and lots of glass.

It's bigger than you think especially if you have spent 13 years driving a four door hatchback. Lots of people like calling the Mav small but it's really not.
I parked my 2012 Chevy Colorado right next to one the other day. It might be a few inches bigger. Barely noticed a difference. That being said, have any of you put sand bags in your Maverick for snow and ice?

If you don’t need them, take the head rests out for more visibility. My Chevy Colorado has permanent headrests and there are some angles to the right where it is difficult to see due to the headrest and column.

The Maverick is two feet longer than your Patriot and has a turning circle four feet wider.

The only time I notice the extra size compared to my Outback/CR-V/RAV4 is when reversing into a parking spot or trying to parallel park. I'm sure I'll get used to it; I've had my Maverick only a month.

Afaik no setting, just double tap unlock.

Coming from a very small vehicle (Honda Fit and Mini Cooper) It hasn't been too much of a learning curve. Parallel parking in normal conditions has been just as easy. In weirder situations (parking in between a restaurant outdoor dining and another huge van) it's been rough some times, have to get the entry perfect or going to be massively out from the curb.
Only other thing I've noticed is depending on how messed up the road is, sometimes the bed just bounces back and forth and won't settle for a second or two, feels like a tank slapper on a motorcycle. Really odd feeling considering don't really feel it in the cab while it's doing that. It's very rare though, only had it twice and just cause the roads were repaved in a moronic way in those streets.

Maybe if you are used to driving a Colorado it might seem not so big but when you are used to driving a four door hatchback like say a 2009 Pontiac Vibe that you have been driving for 13 years it's a lot bigger. The size difference might take some getting used to just ask me how I know or better yet ask my wife.......

Whatever you do, don't put it into sport mode until you're sure...
