My window sticker says that my Maverick has perimeter alarm. When I took it to my dealer they checked and could not find that alarm was even installed. After working on Maverick for most of a day. Stated alarm was not there and put in some paper work with Ford to find what was going on. Have checked back and even had the Dealership Owner try to find out what was going on and they have not gotten any answers from Ford. I bought my Maverick in Oct.2019, so this must be an ongoing thing. I guess there have not been enough owners complain, to get this to be an issue with Ford. Never mind that I paid for this, its on the window sticker along with the passive alarm.

I came home with my fully loaded Lariat over the weekend and discovered the alarm system wasn't working. When I reached out to my dealership, they suggested it's an add on. I assumed it would come standard on the top of the line model for which I paid a little north of 38k. Now I'm feeling stupid if I assumed too much after doing a fair bit of homework on the truck before buying. I'm wondering if anyone knows more precisely whether it is supposed to come standard or not with any of the Maverick models. I love the truck either way but a bit puzzled.
I believe that a (shock) alarm or tampering alarm is the optional perimeter alarm from Ford that I installed on my XL. I also, purchased a remote start fob that I didn't need as the XL fob provided that task after the perimeter alarm module was installed and linked. I know you have remote start on the Lariat, but the XLs do not.

One way to check whether the shock alarm is installed on your truck is roll the left window down and lock all the doors, which arms the perimeter alarm. Now pound hard on the steering wheel with your fist. Just rocking the truck or jumping up and down on the bumper does not trip the shock alarm, because it monitors access points. You can also check by rolling the left window down and locking all the doors and reach in from the outside and pull the inside door handle. This also trips the perimeter alarm.

Thanks. I think Mr. White nailed it earlier in the thread. My lariat does have the perimeter alarm that triggers when there is an attempt to open the door from the inside when the vehicle is locked and key is not nearby. Banging on the steering wheel does not set it off with my truck. It sounds like the shock alarm is not on any model options. Not sure I want to splurge for that accessory that also includes the remote start which I already have.

Hummmmm...since you confirmed perimeter alarm by opening the door reaching in from the outside, I wonder if you pounded on the steering wheel hard enough. It took most of my strength to pound hard enough while standing outside the door and reaching in through the open window.

But, the only real purpose of the shock alarm is if another vehicles runs into you while you are parked or someone breaks a window. Although, it's supposed to sound an alarm if someone breaks a window, but I don't recommend trying that just to test it. o_O

I don't think the shock alarm is supposed to require that much energy. As I understood it, banging on the window or side of the truck as a test should set it off. But I admittedly don't have first hand experience with it.

According to the manual:
"The VSS module is equipped with an internal dual zone Shock Sensor. The VSS system will sound the horn and flash the lights once anytime a light to moderate impact is detected, and a "panic" horn sound/ light flash for a 30 second sequence when a heavy impact is detected while the VSS system is armed.

Adjustment of both zones is accomplished through a single adjustment knob on the VSS module. Rotating the knob clockwise will increase sensitivity and rotating the knob counter-clockwise will decrease sensitivity. Sensitivity adjustment must be completed with the module securely mounted and the adjustment knob accessible."

I just took the default adjustment so not just any ol' shock will set the momentary alarm off. Although I was visiting a business in Tyler last week and my truck was parked outside for about 2 hours. When I got back into my truck there were some unusual chimes from the truck when I got in. I'll have to check the manual to find out if this was a notice of a momentary alarm.

Where do you adjust this? I don't have any alarm option to adjust that I've found yet. Or was the system an add on for you and you have something to adjust that I don't? My head is still spinning a bit from this whole topic.

As I stated in a post in this thread yesterday at 1:54 PM, "I believe that a (shock) alarm or tampering alarm is the optional perimeter alarm from Ford that I installed on my XL."

I have an XL and wanted a fob remote start since I do not use a smart phone, so I purchased the optional perimeter alarm (Vehicle Security System, VSS) and a remote start fob (turns out I didn't need). I was able to program my Ford provided fob with remote start after installing the VSS module and programming it to my Maverick. The module supplies shock alarm (adjustable sensor), access point alarms, and remote start with a fob. I felt it was cheap at $207 for the VSS.

Saying all that, it would be strange that anything with a shock alarm of any kind would not have some adjustment capability—although it may have to be done through a dealer tech or with ForScan.

I have never had a car that had an alarm system that did not trigger if you rolled windows down, locked car, and then reached in and opened the door. Even 20 years ago my mid-trim Honda Accord did that. So I was going to be really surprised if the Maverick didn't have that. I suspect Ford needs to stop creating word salads about the "alarm" systems. They're not worth anything, anyway.

I hear you. This is my first new vehicle in 30 years and have never had an alarm system. I'm more than pleased with what came on the vehicle.

I thought the same thing with my Lariiat. The perimeter alarm is listed on my window
sticker too. I'll make a call tomorow. Also, theres no garage door opener?

With help from this forum, I was able to confirm it is on my truck. As pointed out by others though, it's not the Perimeter Plus that has more features. I'm fine with what I did get with the basic Perimeter system. It was just the distinction between them wasn't clear to me in Ford's materials but thankfully was resolved here. And yes I was disappointed about the lack of garage door opener capability.

Did you say you bought and installed yourself? Sorry if you're having to repeat things for this "mature" fellow.
