I’ve been following this forum since late October when I started looking for a new car after wrecking mine. Found the Maverick and was lucky enough to catch a dealer stock coming in and received it late November.

Long story short, wanted to add cruise. Followed the multiple threads and instructions word by word this last Saturday.

Got everything to work! Except the steering wheel is crooked. Thought it was just an alignment issue so took it to a dealership this morning.

The alignment was done but the steering wheel is still crooked. They are looking at the steering wheel motor to see if that is the issue. They are treating it as a warranty claim last update I had.

Just so I understand correctly, the steering wheel was fine before you removed it, but crooked after you re-installed it?

I think it’s roughly 45 to the left.
"roughly 45 degrees to the left" is pretty close to 60 degrees--which is one side of the hexagonal shaft that holds the steering wheel...

Did you tell the shop that you had removed the steering wheel?

I did tell them I took the wheel off. Didn’t say anything else.

Well, you apparently misaligned the wheel installing it. Sorry this happened to you, the only solution is to remove it and put it back on correctly.

Surely you are trolling us all.

You took it off, put it back on crooked, and then took it to the dealership to get an alignment?

Is this an episode of MTV PUNK'D?

OK, I will play a long.

Did you perchance take the steering wheel off and try to put it back on the right way before taking it into the dealership?

I remain incredulous about all of this, would love to see some paperwork from the dealership... That having been said, if this is real, it will be a nice test of how far they will go with the warranty.

That seems like the obvious conclusion, but could he really have not noticed it? And would the dealer really have checked it under warranty, especially knowing that the wheel had been removed and replaced?

This is likely one or more of the following: 1) A bizarre coincidence that just happened to occur while removing & replacing the wheel. 2) The unfortunate experience of someone who's not used to working on mechanical things. 3) A prank.

I'm strongly leaning toward one of these being more likely than the others...

As am I. Most likely number 1.

🤣

I'm just glad that Caleb signed up on the forum TODAY so that we are aware of this obvious recall issue!

I’ll be honest, this is most I’ve ever done on any car/truck. Seemed fairly straight forward and ultimately completed everything I set out to do. Except the steering wheel.

I thought I put it back on exactly the same way I took it off, but apparently I didn’t, at least coming from the certified mechanics on here.

Tell them exactly what you did, let them fix your error, and pay them to fix it. Don't try to hide it, that will just cost you more billable hours. Sorry.

Is Trolls 3 coming out? Maybe this is an ad campaign?

Ok I'll play along some more.

I think there is a very good likelihood that you're going to get a bill from the dealership for all of this. If it were me, I would go take the car back and tell them never mind I think I figured out the problem.

Do me a favor, block out your personal information and upload an image of the paperwork from the dealership from when you dropped the car off with the complaint in clear sight. I'd love to pin it up on a special wall I have, plus I think you are more likely to get help here.

OK, if you think that you mis-aligned the wheel when you put it back on, you should probably call the dealer and let them know ASAP. Otherwise, they might go on a wild goose chase, since they would be unlikely to suspect that an owner would remove and misalign a wheel...

Edit: For what it's worth, I'm not a certified auto mechanic. But I have worked on mechanical things for decades, and I have been certified to maintain and repair sophisticated printing equipment.
