The aim of this thread to collect all the information here.

Big thanks to @Tyvemattis for first figuring this out.

The steps are as follows first you will need either a steering wheel with the LH cruise control switch paired with the correct RH steering wheel switch. the following steering wheels will work.
2020 - 2023 Escape
2020 - 2023 Explorer
2021 - 2023 Bronco Sport

edit
@Mas280 has confirmed a 2020 or newer Ford Transit steering wheel is the same as a Maverick.

or any 2022 Maverick steering wheel on the higher level trims XLT and Lariat that have the switches.

If you want to keep your existing steering wheel then the part numbers for the switches to replace the stock XL switches are
LH Switch
part# SW8579

RH Switch
part# SW8576

Next post is about the actually disassembly and assembly of the steering wheel.

Now this step is required whether you change the switches or only the wheel

My mega writeup ...

Edit: a few details have been added, I would be glad to add more pertinant details or links as suggested, especially pertaining to the use of Forscan for this purpose.

First, I must thank @Tyvemattis for his ground-breaking work. All I am doing here is documenting the process that worked for me.

This took me about four hours, I am sure I could do it in less than two now.

My vehicle is an XL hybrid, with CP-360.

The main points:
  • Switches SW-8579 and SW-8576 (OR optionally a correct steering wheel with the switches installed)
  • Forscan 2.3.45 (must be a licensed copy to write to modules, even the 2 month free license will work), and OBDLinkEX
  • Programming
    • SCCM - 724-02-01 1258 6820 3050
    • BCM - 726-04-05 CB28 8140 8872
    • IPC - no changes
Edit: It has been suggested by @Maverick2022XL that the following setting is required as well, in order to get the ABS to function correctly with the Cruise Control.
  • ABS 760-03-02 0200 0000 0573
I have not yet confirmed this myself, but by comparing with XLT as-built data, it seems likely. (see https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...an-and-escape-steering-wheel.7287/post-180145 and discussion following.)

The long version:

Tools needed - 15/16 socket, 10mm socket, small flat screwdriver, T8 torx screwdriver, and perhaps a few hand tools
Recommended - Loctite, torque wrench, 7mm socket (if removing clamshells)

Steps -
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal (under the rear seat for the hybrid, under the hood for the EB). Use a 10mm socket.
  • Adjust the steering wheel position to full extension, to gain space between it and the dash.
  • (Note: see posts following about not needing to remove the clamshells. This would save a few steps, but I will leave my method here for reference. Steps in italics assume that you do dissassemble the clamshells.)
  • Gently pry apart the steering column upper clamshell from the lower.
IMG_20220120_105505080_HDR.jpg

  • Remove the lower clamshell for the steering column. You need a 7mm socket for this, remove the two bolts and pull it aft and down.
  • Turn the steering wheel 90° left or right. (It will be hard turning without power assist.)
  • Look underneath, and on the forward side of the wheel you will see a slot. Insert the screwdriver in that slot, and pry "up" on the release, to release that side of the airbag.
IMG_20220120_092318235_HDR.jpg

  • Turn the wheel 90° the other way and do it again. The airbag should come off.
  • Remove the wires from the airbag. For the yellow and orange connectors, gently lift the orange section with a pick or tiny screwdriver to release, and after it is lifted, the connector can be removed. Set the airbag aside.
IMG_20220120_093337005_HDR.jpg

  • Disconnect the black clockspring connector exiting the wheel through the top opening by inserting a small screwdriver into the top side and releasing.
  • Remove the 15/16 inch bolt holding the wheel on. It is not as tight as I thought it would be.
  • Remove the steering wheel, mine came off easily.
  • Put a piece of tape across the clockspring to keep it from rotating out of position while you are doing other stuff. (Make sure you remove this later!)

Reassembly is basically the opposite of disassembly. I recommend you put loctite on the 15/16 bolt thread, it had it from the factory. @kingranchero recommends 35 lb-ft of torque, I just torqued it tight.

If you removed the clamshells, when putting them back together, be sure to get all the various "tabs" engaged. Install the lower first, starting with the forward end, getting the tabs on the rail, then hinge the upper into place. Pay close attention to the areas circled below.

IMG_20220120_105336786_BURST000_COVER.jpg

After it is all put together, reconnect the battery, and program.

IMG_20220120_093549450.jpg

I am not going to get into the details of using Forscan, there are tutorials available. See the top of this post for parameters needed/suggested.

I tried to enter the IPC codes suggested by @Tyvemattis at the top of this thread
(https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...an-and-escape-steering-wheel.7287/post-151787), but they would not write. It works fine anyway. (My first one as-built was a match for his recommended already.)

The system will set a few DTCs (primarily when the vehicle wakes up with different parts installed), make sure you clear them after all is finished. (Don't sweat this, it wasn't a big deal, you would never know if Forscan didn't tell you.)

IMG_20220120_102239075_HDR.jpg

That is all I can think of right now, I hope this helps!

Oh, and if this works for you, please consider buying a paid license for Forscan, they deserve it.

Next step is only for the switches if you decide to keep your existing wheel.
Instructions courtesy of @Tyvemattis here
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...her-switches-such-as-cruise-control-diy.7358/

Throwing a quick set of pictures up on my phone for removing the factory steering wheel switches, all you need is a flathead screwdriver and a t8 torx, use the random holes in the steering wheel from behind to pry and push the little tabs with the flathead and it'll pop right off, then use the torx for the screws holding the switches on.

I don't remember reading about the hill descent control in the CC thread, if so that's amazing because it's the only thing from the FX4 package that seemed interesting. Also, you should correct the steering wheel compatibility to say Bronco Sport. I'm not sure the full size Bronco is direct plug and play with the air bag unit from the Maverick?

edit: Mods feel free to delete this post for continuity of the OP's intent

Finally to program the Maverick XL using forscan.

The version used is 2.3.45 note only use this version for the 2.0L ecoboost engines. 2.5L hybrids use the software listed below.

edit
For hybrid vehicles the ABS module will not write at all. Forscan has since released a test version of the software than can write the ABS module for hybrid engines. I've had 1 confirmation it does so far but more should be forthcoming in this and the cruise control thread.
https://forscan.org/download/FORScanSetup2.3.46.test20220126.exe

Program codes

SCCM - 724-02-01 1258 6820 3050
For the correct switches after replacing the switches or putting a different wheel with the correct switches
This code is for a Maverick that also has Copilot 360 installed it will work on non Copilot 360 installations but if you experience any issues try this code instead
SCCM - 724-02-01 1258 4820 3030

They work in the following manner
xxxx 4xxx xxxx is for a left hand steering wheel switch and left hand turn stalk w/o lane keep

xxxx 6xxx xxxx is for a left hand steering wheel switch and left hand turn stalk w/ lane keep

ABS - 760-03-02 0200 0000 0573
Sets the braking to work correctly with cruise control

edit thanks to @TobyGadd for pointing this out. The codes for the ecoboost and hybrid do differ.

BCM - 726-04-05 CB28 8140 8872
Use this code for the 2.0L ecoboost engines. So far there hasn't been any reported issues using this code on hybrids but if you used it originally it is recommended to redo with the code below.

BCM - 726-04-05 CB28 8141 8873
Use this code for 2.5L hybrid engines

This activates the cruise control functionality for XL trims less an FX4 package

TBD
BCM codes for XL trim Mavericks with the cruise control mod and optional if figured out FX4 upgrade.

No IPC codes need to be changed after testing.

Bronco Sport is what I meant, I'll update that. Hill Descent isn't 100% verified yet but I am confident enough it will work that I am adding it to this writeup

What is the difference between Hill Descent Control and the similar function that my XL hybrid has?

I was queried for my VIN by fordpartsonsale.com in order to get the switches referenced above shipped. I’m guessing that they will become rarer than hen’s teeth shortly.
Has anyone done a successful write to the hybrid abs module yet?

Not to my knowledge, but don't let that stop you, it seems to work 100% correctly without it.

And, I am confident we will get that worked out soon.

https://www.ford.com/technology/driver-assist-technology/hill-descent-control/

It is actually a 360 copilot feature but Ford doesn't bundle it as such on the Maverick hiding it in the FX4 package. This is why it should be easy enough to enable on all gas only Mavericks w/o FX4 once you get the correct center console cluster switch. Hybrids it should work since it is like a cruise control but there may be other issues related to them switching between electric and gas.

If you drive steep inclines it could be useful but if your driving consists of fairly level roads it is probably not worth trying to add it in except for because you can reasons.

It should but I noticed my gas mileage dropped big time without the ABS set to cruise control on some long haul driving 50+ miles with cruise control on the whole way. Also noticed excessive breaking when it wasn't set so it might cause premature break wearing. Yes it does work but it is not 100% optimal without the ABS setting changed to cruise control.
