Multi-month delay for February 2022 deliveries - Why?

I have a Cyber Orange Hybrid XLT w/ CP360, tow hitch, rear window & cab inverter that is due to be delivered by Feb. 7. It has not had its delivery date pushed back to May. Likely because it was built in early January and is presently sitting at the rail yard in New Orleans awaiting a semi truck to haul it to the dealer 3 hours away.

I was hoping to get a tonneau on the bed as soon as possible to minimize UV fading of the SIBL.
Has anyone mentioned that hybrid batteries have a "shelf life"? It is not only cyclic fade that ages a battery, but calendar age too. Not sure how significant, but it is a real consideration.
It is called calendar aging and its effect can vary with other conditions. Not sure how sitting in desert for six months negates or contributes?

I wouldn't worry about the SIBL with UV fading because they are very hardy. The hybrid battery question is a good one.

I would be happy to take delivery of my Maverick to have reliable transportation until the chip arrives and bring it back to the dealer to install it. That short term solution would probably satisfy many of us while Ford would show their customers that they WANT to work with us.

There were reports last summer ford might start shipping trucks to dealers with chips still missing but I don't know if they ever did. If you are really interested, you could follow up on that and let us know.

I try to dig into these issues but to date, get the same old story. So no progress yet. But I keep digging best as I know how.

Rumor has the missing chips are Doritos, but it could also Lay's the one with ridges!
Seriously, the microchips are needed for the modules that control things like heated seats, cruise control etc. So it's not something that wants to dealership installed. Also, once a truck is delivered it becomes the dealership property and they don't want non-working trucks they can't sell.

Why couldn't they be short Flaming Hot Crunchy Cheeto chips? Have a huge unopened bag in the pantry I'd overnight to them. They are so hot the Maverick would probably push 300 hp. Of course the hybrid would whine!!!
But you are right. No dealership wants to have any vehicles on their lots where they would have to insure it for who knows how long before allowed to "complete" it and sell it.

I'd be more concerned about the plastic wrap they put over seats melting. Although it's still a few months before we get to the high summer when outdoor temperatures push pass 110 and interior temperatures reach cookie baking temps!

Can’t wait for my batteries to sit in the high heat in the coming months, never being run. Paint getting blasted by UV rays. Interior plastics being heated up so high it could probably cause cracking since it’s cheap material. Prob not good for the rubber on tires either.

Wonder how much bird they get down there that could end up eating away the clear coat.

I think this is more than a little dramatic. In the pre-COVID world of surplus inventory and full dealer lots, it was not uncommon for cars (including hybrids) to sit for many moons waiting on a buyer. We bought one ourselves - a Kia Optima Hybrid. It had been on the lot for more than a year, including 2 GA summers. It had real leather seats and it was black in color inside and out. Not a single flaw from all the sun. The only thing the dealer had to do was replace the the tires because they had developed permanent flat spots from sitting. We spent 3 years and 40,000 miles with it before it was totaled by a deer. 4 of us road tripped from Miami, FL to NYC in it at one point with it. It consistently beat EPA MPG estimates and never had a single issue.

These things are not nearly as fragile as you guys think they are.

I live in Florida and park outside. Until a couple of weeks ago I had a 2005 Prius still functioning just fine (46-52 mpg) on its original hybrid battery. The so-called shelf life according to a dealer mechanic is 8 years, which mine Is at twice that. In other words, don’t worry too much about the fragility and lifespan of the small hybrid battery pack.

Exactly, what does someone in southern TX, NM, or AZ do with their car all summer?
