Strong smell in cab. It does make you sick feeling for a second.
I think the exhaust or something is leaking into cab. I wonder if the cab is not sealed somewhere under the vehicle.
So, you had the same type of issues with an EcoBoost Maverick and remote start? We have only been hearing the issue in hybrid models in this thread.

If it happens again, can you open the back seat storage where the 12v battery (there's a plastic cover over it) is and determine if the smell is stronger from the 12v battery or not? Some people theorized that could be the smell, otherwise the catalytic converter, but I would assume that cat smell wouldn't leak into the cab so readily since it's exhausted to the rear, right?
YES! Truck is 2 days old. Eco 2.0 stink.
On test drive smelled like burning plastic. It does go away after a minute or so if you air out the cab.
I have noticed it's with remote start or using key.

Has anyone determined what the fix will be for this other than not to use the remote start?
It doesn't ONLY do it when remote started, it will do it with an old fashioned key start too (the irregular idling).

See thats not the same. Ive idled with the key and sat for over 30 mins, no smell, no reviving. Mine has ONLY ever done this with remote start.

Yesterday I took my hybrid up in the hills and really drove it hard. When we arrived we got a whiff of something but not sure what. I raised the back seat and it did not smell worse. I poked around opening each door and tailgate. Nothing really said "More Smell". I then opened the hood. Nothing there either. Smell was almost gone withing those few minutes.

My thought is I worked the ICE engine more that I ever had and I think whatever films or paint or whatever finally got burned in with the hotter engine because I know it seldom gets hot around town. I'm am not concerned unless it keeps happening more than 3-4 times in the next month or 2.

Mine has done both, it's the same action as far as the irregular idle, but as with remote start it's not EVERY time it's started. All I am trying to say is that the issue of irregular idling is not exclusive to remote starting.

I wonder if you were smelling brakes as well. That would be normal if you were hard on the brakes.

Update for all, Ford Corporate offered for me to take my vehicle to another service department and have them work directly with Ford to look at the issue. unfortunately, this is kind of an issue for me as there isnt another Ford service department in over 60 miles for me so thats not really doable for me as this is the only vehicle I have.

I would ask them for pick-up service and a loaner.

I would know if it were brakes because I was at the front and back sniffing. Besides I was driving hard in the hills and not using much brakes because I was going uphill mostly so I let off the gas to slow a little prior to enter a corner too fast then I accelerate a little coming out. More like I do on one of my motorcycles (except I can downshift on a bike).

Ford replied with the following;

Each dealership is different and you’d need to contact the service department for each one in your area. Loaners are scarce right now due to the vehicle shortage, so you should inquire as to whether they work with a rental car company (such as Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, etc.) If the dealership works with a rental car company, they have been authorized to provide rental cars to Ford customers for warranty service at no cost to you.

SO I would just need to find a dealer who does that and they should be good to go. Ill look around this weekend.

Update on my situation... I've tested this a few times now and it seems to happen with the key or the remote start. I thought it was just the remote start at first... Now I can confirm it doesn't matter if you start it yourself with the key.

How wide spread is this issue? It is hard to gauge in the various threads.

For what it's worth, I've remote started (Fordpass app) my hybrid a couple mornings now at ~30 to 40*F outside (ice on my windows) and there doesn't seem to be anything strange going on -- absolutely normal startup as far as I can tell. But I have not had the climate control cranked up when I turn off the truck so maybe it's not starting up with all those things on and immediately pushing hard into some kinda weird software/hardware hiccup. I'm not sure if that's even a variable with others' problematic remote startups.

Is it always happening for others in a rather cold environment, with all kinds of climate control active?
