I mean, thats my experience, remote start to defrost in the morning absolutely kills MPG along with the cold in general.
I guess that's the cost to pay to have all four seasons of the year. I guess I could always bundle up and delete the fordpass app, but the luxury is worth the cost....

My first fill based on miles and gallons was 43.9 combined. I use the Eco mode and my freeway speed was 70, no cruise control. If you accelerate quickly in the city the gas engine kicks in immediatel.

Another warmer climate mpg win. I did notice how if you apply too much accelerator pedal input, it would then turn on the gas engine at lower speeds. Seems like the big factor for me though are the remote starts and cold temps currently.

Are you using ECO mode? The default is always Normal, and it must be changed EVERY DANG TIME you start the car. They need to fix this!

I like keeping it on normal mode, I don't like the forced sluggish response of eco mode.

So would my insurance company. Just kidding, clean record. I believe it might be due to 85% highway driving (mostly 70mph+) and then all the other factors like cold weather, remote start, quick trips.... I'm going to limit my use of remote start and try to stick to ~65mph and see what we can do for the first 1,000 mile fill up.
The gage on the left you should watch. If you are over 2nd notch past zero it is your foot keeping your from running more on electric especially if you are on level ground going 30-50 Maybe a notch higher with cruise control on and on a flat road doing 67-69mph. Use cruise control and stay under 70+ if you want better gas mileage. If you don't want that, drive as you are. It is a free country.

Learn to accelerate easy (not slow) to 35 if in town on 35 mph city street. When level stop increasing speed and see where the gage on the left reads.

I'll blame it on my long legs... I freely received 26mpg, now I will seek better mpg... I guess what could have done me in with this tank was the fact that I realized how quick this little hybrid is when giving it a little push....

THIS! I figured this out the other day. Once I get to cruising speed now, i intentionally lift my foot off the pedal and then back on, and it goes into all electric mode. I swear this seems like a software bug though.

I've been able to get it running on electric under 25mph, but I haven't noticed full electric above those speeds. I'll be more attentive.

I have a 2013 C-MAX SE hybrid avg 41.4 mpg since I bought it new.
My 2019 Fusion Titanium hybrid averages 40.2.
I take delivery tomorrow of my 2022 Maverick Lariat Hybrid.

So when the engine runs mpg deteriorates; cold weather (when heat is called for), heavy acceleration and charging the battery all lower mpg.
Low tire pressure also takes a bite out of mpg.

Coasting to a stop with gentle braking is a best practice for best mpg.

The hybrid system of the Maverick is simply regenerative braking so it would make sense that you are getting terrible MPG if you are:

90/10 interstate/city.
Idling with the heater on
Have a lead foot

All of which you stated. Sounds like you are good to go, you are getting decent MPG driving however you want to and when you want to get into the 40's, you simply need to change your driving habit's.

Don't give up and do not think it's all your fault!

I did on our 2013 CMax, best I could do was high 38's mpg.
I mentioned on the CMax forum that this was the first car I had ever had that I couldn't meet or beat the epa  .
The hypermillers said it was my lead foot.

First software had NO effect, some hypermillers reported they lost mpg's . Software tech said it took him 3 tries to get the car to accept the upgrade???
Next yr we took it in for the second upgrade, got our usual 36 mpg going (35 miles) to the dealership.
Service said it might take a couple of hours.
We were there grr 9! Tech came out to apologize/explain.
Said he tried 5 times to load the update, gave up and changed all computers, I think there were 3 .

Only thing I noticed on the way home was the 43 mpg, thought it was just the first miles on the computer, but it wasn't!
Milage stayed above 40+ till we traded the next yr (y)
