Place it just above the tow bar???Yeah, but the license plate isn't centered. Wouldn't that skew the angle?
A bumper cam would likely not function with the tailgate down either - The tailgate would block so much light it would be rendered useless.Seems if they would of thought more about this, not the first pickup ever built. They should have put camera on the bumper so it would work even if tail gate is down. Yes, of course you can use the mirror and should, but it would be nice when you have something long and hard to maneuver in the bed of your truck to be able to use the camera to verify clearance of objects be hind you.
Except it is NOT a legit issue.Look at all the fanboys jumping all over this OP simply because he made a simple gripe comment about a legit issue.
.
What is your solution though? There is no other workable location to place the camera. So what do?Let me try to relay my issue in a series of logical statements for people who don't understand why this would be an issue.
1) The Ford Maverick has a backup cam as standard equipment (required in all new vehicles by U.S. federal law since May 2018).
2) When you put the tailgate down and have your bed loaded, the backup cam no longer works, because it is viewing the ground. (Why have a cam then? Isn't it even more important when you are carrying stuff?)
3) The small Maverick bed means that your tailgate will often be down, especially when you are carrying larger items.
4) Having large things (like the big furniture pieces I carry) in your bed means that your side mirrors are less useful than normal, and your rear view mirror is useless. If there is a kid or a dog directly behind you, you may accidentally back in to them as a result.
5) The Maverick Lariat Lux trim sounds an ongoing collision alert while the tailgate is down because the camera is only two feet off the ground.
6) Items 2-5 are not functional or desirable states for a Maverick owner.
This.Except it is NOT a legit issue.
Who's crying? If you are so mature why do post garbage on a technical forum that looks like it belongs on video game chat board?Millenials. Why can't my truck be perfect??? Why, why?

Well, that is why I posted this thread. My immediate thought is that I will try to buy a movable cam, and mount it to the top of the tailgate when it is down. It turns out I am not the only one who has had issues, here is a snowplow guy with a F450 and has the same needs:What is your solution though? There is no other workable location to place the camera. Haha, I see that you missed my series of 6 logical statements. Do you have any logical statements in response, or just fanboy stuff to offer the group? This.
There's a factory installed feature that comes with every driver. It's called "a neck."

Thanks dr. pick ups. Save some ladies for us!!I suggest you take a drivers Ed class
I’ve been dr pick ups for 30 years. Never once have I needEd a camera to drive with my tailgate open.
Thanks MLowe05, I have been wondering if the Forscan app might help me with this issue. I can't imagine that so many people would actually put up with this over time, it is super annoying, especially if you are loading big furniture constantly. The rear collision warning is the tailgate interfering with the sensors in the bumper - nothing to do with the camera. I agree that this is an issue and think the best solution would have been a programming change tied to the tailgate latch.. if it is down, disabled rear parking sensors, disabled camera.
You'll have to excuse some of these guys on here that walked uphill to school, both ways, in the snow and once killed a bear with a looseleaf notebook.
