I don't understand why someone would be interested in a hugely expensive Sync 3 infotainment upgrade, when I'm sure the aftermarket will come up with larger screen drop in replacements.

Chinesium aftermarket ones will also likely let you add front and bed cameras too.
It's just the fact that they have it on EVERY other vehicle, or least offered, across the lines. Having to buy a Lariat and then a $5k Lux group just to get XM and SYNC on a Mav??? Mehhhhhh

Ok here is what it looks like inside the dash. The APIM should be in there somewhere and I don’t see it. One of the pics is looking up towards the screen and you can see the screen wire going to it. I haven’t figured out how to get the screen off yet but I doubt it’s back there

Ok, this is a surprise to me. I assumed it had an APIM. It sure explains a lot of why the 8" Connected Touch Radio has a limited feature set.

Anyone know what the empty third antenna input on the XL/XLT Radio Module is for?

I just installed a SiriusXM Commander Touch and had to access the FM antenna connection to the Radio Module. I didn't look behind the Radio Module to locate the APIM. I had ultimately planned to upgrade the APIM to Sync 3 with SiriusXM capability. I guess that's out now.

I also had difficulty of getting the 8" screen off. I got the bin above the radio screen off, but couldn't find a way to remove the bottom of the screen attachment. Maybe when I want to play some more.

^^ This for sure. But I do appreciate those who are blazing the trail on this. I'm pretty confident there will be upgrades available later, whether factory or aftermarket. Thin Ford did a lot of things to get this out the door with constraints being as they are. I can live with it until then....I knew being a sight-unseen early adopter would come with it's cons as well. Still well worth it...still feel like a kid with mine!!

Were you using the USB C or USB input (for the Sirius XM)? i am trying to see if that will work...

After all, look how hard it is to even find floor mats and other accessories fight now...the market will catch up. Seems the popularity of the Maverick was hugely underrated but imagine is getting a lot of attention now and manufacturers are paying attention to these sites/ forums.

Looking at the as built on my XLT Lux vs a Lariat Lux I don't have any 7D0- entries in the BCE like the Lariat LUX does. If it has an APIM its getting programmed under different addresses. Another oddity the Lariat Lux actually had PCM entries where the lesser models don't.
My Lariat Lux did not have any PCM entries. BCE only.

Interesting I ran a VIN off the tracker for someone that said it was Lariat Lux

so, after some use, are you happy with the FM Direct? decent sound quality?
Very much so. Since the Maverick XL is not a super quiet ride, I don't need audiophile quality sound. Decent quality FM is good enough for me. I like the SiriusXM because of retro music, sports (mostly football), and Fox News.

This is the stuff we get for being early adopters. I looked in all of the obvious places where and APIM would be and there isn’t one. I sent pics to a guy who does APIM upgrades and he said that it appears they used the radio itself to save money. He also asked if there was a 54 pin connector in the dash. There isn’t one I can find. He said that all wiring harnesses are hand wrapped in Mexico so it could very well be they left that wire out. So after all my research this is going to be a no go for a while. I’m sure someone will fill this market sooner or later but the work to get the wiring right may require a lot of dash removal to get everything hooked up.
Ford is releasing the wiring diagrams on 12/31. I’m going to get one so I can see what the difference between XLT and Lariat are.
