I am only doing these two because they are the only two that matter. Normal is a split. I wanted to do the two that are opposite ends of the spectrum and the ones I will use the most.
Ok, for those of you who want the short version-10 mpg less in sport. Enjoy your night, Merry CHRISTMAS and Happy New Year.

For those of you who want more info, here you go.

I have tried both. Quick sum up is the difference is very similar to tuning a diesel truck, night and day.
Throttle response: I feel that after comparing these I need to edit my earlier review of how smooth the throttle is. In Eco it is simply that, smooth. It doesnt jerk or lag, it just comes on very linear. If you gun it you will not see 100% power. It will jump and gently climb. To get it to lurch forward requires a good bit of throttle. I have yet to find myself wanting more throttle than it could give. My father drove it today and hit it in that mode, he said "It's not fast, but it is not slow either". That is the perfect description of Eco mode. It has enough power to make it drive well. You will hit electric mode often and at every chance the computer can give.

Now Sport: Responsive as hell. I was easing down the road and hit the mode button to switch to Sport(one push after Eco). At that throttle position the truck LUNGED forward. I was honestly taken by surprise. I did not expect that much of a difference. I never hit pure electric mode in Sport. Sport wanted to run. Mileage dropped a ton with a noticeable difference in engine RPMS. It was around 30 mpgs which is still not bad, but thats at the EB ratings. As I was on a 50 mile drive I slipped it back into Eco mode only to be met with a slow car a few miles later. Perfect time to test it. I pushed the button once and slapped it into Sport mode. When I went to pass the truck raced forward hitting 80 mph from 45 very quickly while jumping to near 100% power. Even my wife noticed the difference. All I could say was "Damn that was strong." I played with it some never hitting electric but it was extremely responsive. More so than my tuned 350 and I know more than our EB Escape. I understood why it is as fast to 100 as the EB. When it goes, it GOES.

My verdict....I will run Eco 98% of the time. The fuel mileage is just to good. If I get into a questionable situation or need to pass, one quick click of the button is all it takes to get more throttle and a fast pass. All of you who were worried about the lack of power passing, DONT. This truck has PLENTY.......

So for those of you who read the whole thing, Merry CHRISTMAS, Happy New Year AND may all your babies be born Naked.
Great info, like most people on here I ordered a hybrid without a test drive....I like to read positive reviews....Thanks

All sport mode seems to do is keep RPM up so any additional throttle seems like a quicker response
Drag race, drag race!!! Let's all see it.

Months away for getting my Maverick. Can see using the eco when following someone go near or below the speed limit and no opportunity for passing. Normal most of the time and sport for passing and when feeling the need for a rush.

Probably like ALL who ordered before November - I don't know that there were any Hybrids in the world available for a potential customer to test drive - only salespersons and reviewers. ;)

The manual says sport mode "provides a sportier steering feel". Anyone notice this? How would the computer do this, by altering the power steering response? Seems like changing the way the steering responds could throw you off in an emergency.

I gotta do sport mode all the time so I can still have my wife complaining about me being a 65 YO juvenile delinquent!! 😂

So far I don't have anything bad to say about gas mileage. Had it a week have over 1100 miles Probably 100 city 700 highway and the rest plowed fields, two tracks and bad dirt roads and it is averaging (according to the readout) 31. I realize it might be 5-10% hi, but still that ain't bad. That was all in normal. I have the eco boost with awd, towing, fx4
Thats about right I average around 29 and have gotten up to 32 on a trip with alot of downhill driving.

Sounds like "sport mode" responds like the SF turbo-after-burner-emergency override power on your x-wing fighter. Cool.

Would like to see some actually fill up numbers for mpg. Sport mode wasnt even a interests but eco vs normal is on the list to get real data from once mine is here. Got a 400 mile interstate loop already planned out just for the data (pretty drive too). Merry Christmas.
Look forward to your data

Just thinking that sport might be the better mode for the engine break in period. Pay for it now but get better mileage over the life of the truck.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the review. I’ve driven my wife’s 2021 XLT Escape and it was the first opportunity to try the various drive modes. Looking forward to see how my Maverick hybrid does, after reading your review. I might have to try “sport” mode, since I’ll probably trade in my 2013 Ford Focus ST. Been spoiled in that vehicle, but hard to bring home fence posts in.
