Idea for bed protection

The opening at the bed near the tailgate is @ 49”, so when loading a 48” sheet of plywood there is very little clearance, and is very easy to scrape the painted surface. As a temporary solution I use some painter’s tape to cover the paint. I think a thin piece of ABS type material shaped to fit over that area would be nice. It could be attached with an adhesive or possibly a fastener.

Good idea.
Seems like a job perfectly suited for a 3D printer and 3M™ VHB™ (Very High Bond) series tape.

Some “helicopter tape” or “bike frame tape” would be an easy solution for this as well. It’s basically super thick PPF (paint protection film. It’s used on helicopter blades to prevent erosion on the blades from sand and debris. A similar version is used on bicycle/mountain bike frames to prevent chips and scratches in the paint. Easily found online.

I like the idea of a clear film, which would be visually more pleasing. Maybe the same stuff the factory puts on the rocker panels of some vehicle for stone chip protection, like you mentioned.

Very similar, though I’d say the automotive style of PPF is notably thinner.

I bought a roll of clear Frame Tape off Amazon several years ago, and I’ve used it in various random locations over the years; bikes, trailers, truck/car door jamb entry sills, and even on my riding mower to protect the fenders and mowing deck. I bought another roll more recently that looks like carbon fiber (just a printed simulation, not actual carbon fiber). I use that in lots of random places too.

I just bought a pack of step pads for my dog on my rear steps to let her out, the steps are to slippery and she fell down once, its almost clear maybe 4" by 2' comes maybe 4 in a pack, peel and stick, cheap on amazon, not sure what you call them there for traction on steps.

Mine is about 48 3/4" and the 49"x97" cutting/sign/cnc (oversized for squaring or trimming to get perfect sharp corner for furniture, cabinets, etc) panels WILL NOT FIT!! Most discouraging thing about bed!!! Need at least 50".
