Honestly I think it looks really cool, but being RWD kills it for me.

I've driven RWD, FWD and AWD in Wisconsin winters. AWD is ideal, but FWD can handle almost anything if you slow down. RWD is a pain in the ass, especially if that truck bed is empty.

I canceled my SLATE order after getting nothing but delays on pricing and delivery date. It was going to be my running around town car.

In their defense, my mom's Maverick was pre-ordered for two years before the dealer gave her her money back. The benefit to that was she ended up with the 2nd generation Maverick.

If someone wants an inexpensive EV truck - there really is no competition at the moment.

The Maverick Hybrid or EB is not EV. Very different than an EV. Why pay $4,000 more for something you don’t want in the first place?

Why is Ford building an inexpensive EV truck when it already has the Maverick?

EV shoppers might pay $4,000 more for a Ford EV truck - but not for a Hybrid or EB. Why would they?

edit - if a shopper is looking for the least expensive truck period, the Maverick XL EB is the cheapest Ford offering. I would definitely recommend the XL EB to someone looking for an inexpensive truck. Slap that baby in ECO mode & buy 87 octane.

They just went with LFP batteries which is nice. Feel like they would have crushed it when the $7500 EV credit was still in place. Now, I am not so sure. I like a lot of their concepts but ultimately, it is really stripped down and underpowered.

Toyota and Ford both have plans for sub-$30K EV trucks which isn't going to be good news for Slate.

I like the idea but not for me. I am going to watch to see how the RWD plays out. I've drove RWD vehicles through the winters but I am wondering how younger people without the experience will think about it.

I do hope they succeed with their bare-bones pickup EV, as competition improves the breed (and will keep everyone else honest).

Smart that they went with single, largish battery. 205 miles is just barely enough to be viable IMHO, but I reserve judgement until the winter driving reports come in. I'm expecting at least a 30% drop with no heat pump, and if you have the SUV kit, have someone in the back, it's cold, they need heat, and there's no seat heaters, perhaps a 50% drop in miles! That dog won't hunt and may turn into a nasty black eye for Slate, especially if the competition gets much better winter range.

The new battery is spec'd at up to 3.15 miles/kWh. That's a bit better than before, so good for them, but would want real-world user data.

I still think they f'd up not having power windows standard, and the lack of blind side monitoring is a non-starter for me (especially after David Tracey's comment about the blind spot with the massive B-pillar, that's sure to be worse with the SUV kit. They don't even offer it as an option. Safety features shouldn't be removed for the sake of simplicity. They made it dumb.

The wrap idea is an $$$ vanity play, over time it will get expensive. Let's see what the non-wrapped body looks like in 3 years after baking in the Albuquerque sun. Hopefully it won't turn into a warped mess.

If you like the concept of a low cost EV, this might be worth looking at - but I'd hold off for at least 2-3 years to see how it (and the company) survives, as well as what the competition cooks up.

Fun times!

I too had an order in and have since canceled it

 If you want to know 2 of my reasons :

The loss of the $7500 EV credit.

Indiana raised the annual vehicle registration of EV's to $242 (my Maverick hybrid is now $81 )

You have no idea how low those registration numbers actually are. The town property tax on my Maverick is $380 this year. It was more last year. And for my Chevy Blazer EV the property tax for THIS YEAR is $1,085

It's a tiny cab with two doors. How hard is it to use a crank? And a crank uses no battery power.
