Gubmint forced companies to add restrictive emissions equipment of both gas and diesel vehicles, too. This is the same thing. Besides, as fossil fuel rates continue to rise due to dwindling supply of this finite resource, EVs and other fuel sources will become the dominant mode. Money speaks louder than jingoist rhetoric. The most "that's the way we always did it" supporter of ICE will quietly buy an EV when gas starts to climb above $10/gallon and continues to rise. Also, within a few years, that main contention of "range" won't be an issue, as EVs will have parity with average ICE vehicles (about 350-400 miles per fill-up. I'm lucky to go over 350 miles with my 26 gallon tank Transit(not Connect). Charging times are already close to fill-up times with superchargers, and battery life is easily 15+ years above 70% original capacity. It's just going to get better and better for EVs, and only an enthusiast would think of buying a ICE vehicle, if any are still offered.
until the manufacturers figure out to make them"hanger Queens" and unreliable,I am of the thought early adopters may get better vehicles, the "die is cast" on some of this ridiculous safety equipment that is required these days,a funny fact the small economy cars got bad press, according to my sources every 73 model car regardless of size failed the rear impact test-it wasn't just the Pinto and by 1969 the Chevy Corvair was a nice unique(sort of) automobile, just like the I'll fated STS low orbit system, the bean counters always tend to make things less safe( the Pinto was proposed with a fuel cell, maybe airbags( not sure on that one) the original STS system as proposed would have had the orbiter at the top of the fuel stack( thus preventing the "Challenger" tragedy) the bean counters said it was too expensive( despite that it was fairly successful each tragedy added to reliability, the Nazi scientist Von Braun said that thing was going to kill someone.( not to change the subject,it was said Von Braun himself wasn't a Nazi until a week of "reeducation" after wards of course his group had little problem with cruelty.( after falling off my moral"pinnacle" I wonder how long I could hold unto my glorious ideals when subjected to the pressures and temptations politicians and those in authority face?(it seems we are as bad or worse than Chimps, even Chimps have a peaceful tribe.

God - the thought of eating at Elon's makes me want to lose my lunch. I didn't realize that Tesla was doing that too. The article I read related to Popeyes and a few others.
what"rehydrated mashed potatoes and sirloin in a tube' seem yucky? At "Elons restaurant, you can get anything you want, except Elon"

In my state only 30% of electricity is from fossil fuels. Coal is diminishing, and natural gas is the largest of the group. Renewable energy is 15% and growing.

But that's only part of the picture. Most people who have EV'S install solar power, which not only charges the car from the sun, but puts power back into the grid for others to use.

In time, fossil fuels will no longer be needed for electricity.

Most people with EV's don't have solar power to charge them and to add back into the system. I would agree that most EV owners are more open to solar energy but most do not have systems in place to power up their cars.

I like the idea but for me (and millions and millions of others) at this point they are impractical. Where I park there is no place to provide charging. Same for millions that live in apartments.

EV's have made great strides in the last decade in both range and time to charge and that's great.

The tax credit has ended (at least for now) which likely played a role in manufacturers rolling back EV plans.

Many apartment dwellers can charge near their apt, or at work. Have a friend with a Jeep PHEV. He charges both at work at at free chargers nearby. If you live in the woods, you are probably SOL. But if you live in a populated area, there are chargers everywhere. These are within 2 miles of my house:

Some apartment dwellers can charge at work but this is going to be a limited number of drivers. I can't generalize but it would be my guess that stations in Chicago are likely more available than other places.

Search the area around where you live. Almost guaranteed within a couple miles. Just like gas stations.

If it is Maverick size, has a mid gate and goes 300 miles for $30,000 it will be the Maverick debut round 2. Good luck getting one for <$40,000.
You do know that you will be able to order one from a Ford dealer online at MSRP when Build & Price goes online.

I ordered my 2022 & 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid at Autonation Bankston Ford in Plano at MSRP with no additional dealer add-ons just TTL and doc fee of only $50.

>> some of this ridiculous safety equipment

Oh wow. I value my life and life of my loved ones far too much to make a statement like that. I'm old enough to remember when state troopers basically extracted ground human from high speed crashes.

I'll take the "ridiculous safety equipment", thank you very much. You can take the people grinder.

Charge Stations are popping up all over my city (Tucson). Half dozen or more within 3 miles.

Although when I was looking at Tesla - I figured my low mileage & days between drives would enable me to function with the inexpensive socket plug in “Mobile charger”.

Seems that Ford also has one…

Going with the same "system" by mimicking gas stations is a cool transition, but not needed for home owners. A lot of new apartment buildings are offering charging in the parking lots, too. We've only used a public charging station once or twice for the Fiat 500e, and those were the "free" ones outside some stores. The 120vac/15amp cord that came with the car is all we use, and it easily recharges overnight. Long trips exceeding range would require the use of a charging station, but those are getting better planning all the time, such as being adjacent to restaurants or malls so you can kill the 20-30 minutes without becoming bored to death. Unlike the 10-15 minutes spent at a gas station, which are entirely filled with excitement and fumes.

Speaking of "the same system", there is a spate of vandalism and copper wire theft at charging stations as the lowlifes cut off the $3000 cable to sell the copper for $10 at a recycler. When I was in London, in the Kensington neighborhood, I saw streetlamp poles with an outlet in them specifically for charging cars parked on the street. The car owner provides their OWN cable and just plugs in. This removes the opportunity for lowlifes to ruin charging stations for a couple $ when no one is looking. In Merkuh, we decided that chargers should look like gas pumps, and the cable is attached to the charger just like a hose is attached to a gas pump, so that they look similar. Maybe we need to transition to having the cables included with the car, and the charger just has a port.
