I can't believe they would admit to doing that. Seems unethical on it's face. Maybe it's just business as usual in the automotive world.
As long as both parties walk away happy, it's all good. If they want to give me five grand to walk away from my order in addition to refunding my deposit, I'll turn around and say how long until you can get a Transit Connect cargo van in here?

Maybe this will have a happy ending after all. Nothing like a trip to the pokey...
Definitely a wear your brown pants day for sure. I would be surprised if California wasn’t already aware/working cases. The only thing saving the dealerships is probably time and bureaucracy.

appreciate all the quick replies guys, this actually may have a happy ending after all: the GM called me back and apologized profusely for my experience at the dealership last night. said he has squared everything away and to come get my Maverick! i'll be heading back to the dealership after work, fingers crossed no more surprises, and I can finally take delivery of my Maverick XL that I ordered back in July!

so for anyone reading this thread: escalate to the GM if you have surprise mark ups when you go to pickup your Maverick! The sales manager is NOT your friend, the GM can be though!

I just talked to a local dealer who has a First Edition coming in. They told me they paid the ordering customer $2000 to give it up, and now they have it listed for $10k over sticker
Oh my

I just called my dealership and my salesman assured me they do not operate that way. I'm going to take his word for it, for now.

Let's all agree to CONDEMN that dealership, BY NAMEING THEM, and give a shout out to all the dealers that are NOT doing this, BY NAMING THEM. This will help anyone planning to order a new Maverick by knowing what dealer to give their business too.

I know, I know, I know....... I should have got something signed when I ordered my Mav back in July. I was told in my meeting during ordering that
I was locking in price and would avoid the almost guaranteed rise in value as demand goes up. Waited close to 6 months eagerly checking status of my order dang near everyday. Truck get delivered this morning 12-15-21. Dealership calls this morning to tell me there would be a $4,500 dealer mark up. Being that I am already out of that state due to a military PCS I would already have to buy a $500 plane ticket as well as almost 12 hour drive back to my new home I have decided to back out. So now a beautiful Ford Mav sitting in Altus, Oklahoma at a very crappy dealership of Wilmes Ford. At a awesome $4,500 mark up, which they may change to almost $8,000 as they are telling me they gave me a half off discount on the mark up!!!!!!! How kind of them for thinking of me in doing that!!!! Nope go screw yourself Wilmes Ford of Altus, Oklahoma.

Added in the email I received with explanation.

One final note..... As my wife and I found out about our move to a new state I was in full contact with the dealership. Even looked at price of shipping it to my new home and was quoted at $1,800 for the trip from Altus, Oklahoma to Great Falls, MT. I was in constant contact with the dealer. He had every opportunity to be open and honest that there could be a mark up upon arrival. He did not mention this once in our exchanges. He waited till delivery had happened to let me know. That is why I believe this was his plan all along. To have me walk and sell it to the next guy at a profit. At the end of the day I guess as the buyer all I can do is be mad as they sell my custom order to another inidividual.

Y'all Mr Levine has DM'd me back on twitter. This wrong may be righted after all.

You did nothing wrong , they did. Ford can set on their hands, but it will haunt them down the road. Who in their right mind would ever order a vehicle from Ford again. Greed will ruin their new idea. If my dealer pulls this crap, I will ride Uber forever before I spend 1 penny in a Ford dealership. Simple, they have the right to mark up the price & I have the right to walk away forever.

This isn't the first report of the GM stepping to make the situation right... The thing is, not every customer will be as discerning, and the I'm sure the GM happily accepts and incentivizes all the profit made from other customers who aren't as successful in pushing back against bogus add-ons. So, yes - it is best to go as high up in the chain of command as possible to get things squared, but I would still hold that GM responsible for how you were treated.

Glad this thread has done some good. How about @CharlesLupes - any updates from Wilmes Ford?

Ordered my maverick back in November (expected build 2/7).

Saw that my dealership had two mavericks in stock; a Lariat and a XLT. Wanted to see the vehicle in person (as I have not yet come across one).

I figured that there would be a markup, but OMG!!!

The Lariat was marked up 13k for a 42k sale price
XLT was marked up 8k to 34k sale price

I did verify that there would no markup on my vehicle and was assured there would not be. I am really curious who is paying a 50% markup? There was a dude who came up while I was peeping the XLT and starting trying to haggle for MSRP. The salesman laughed and said there was no way given the shortage.

What a time to purchase my first brand new vehicle!
