So you want to buy a BYD pick up (I do too).
You get it home. At some point It needs service beyond a flat tire., what do you do. You own a 2 ton brick.
Bob
I'm surprised BYD does not use the typical Chinese method of naming things. You throw a handful of silverware on the floor and see what that sounds like. :D

Exactly. Cheap build and rattle trap.
Stellantis is well known for cutting corners, especially on fasteners, which seems to be why they have a tendency to fall apart.

Their vehicles are good on style, but not on value.

The last time I was in a truck by them, it was on a 2 week rental of a nearly new vehicle.
With less than 2,000 miles on the truck it was literally falling apart.
The interior door panels were falling off and the 4WD system would only lock up all 4 wheels.
It was unusable and the fuel use was obscene.
Dropping it off was the best part of the rental.

I don't care what the truck looks like, but I wouldn't even consider one of their products.

Just my observations...
Why is every example, made to look like a "High" 4-wheeler.
And how many owners, ACTUALLY do / or would do anything (drive environment) of the sort.
I know of three individuals who own such. (One has the Chevy/GMC version of the "Harley" truck) and the damn thing never sees any dirt?
Your post reminded me...
There was a Miller High Life commercial they used to play during Monday Night Football games back in the day. A good old boy on his porch with a cold brew in hand saw his neighbor drive in and commented:
Look at that.
4 wheel drive.
The only off road duty that puppy is going to see is if she accidently backs up over a flower bed...

You can make fun all you want, but they have improvements and tech way above and beyond our old stuff.

In April BYD and then Geely set a new Guinness record for internal combustion engine efficiency. Almost 60% of fuel is lost to heat in a normal ICE. The last advancements by Toyota took 50 years at 41 percent. The two new Chinese automakers have created new tech to increase that to 48%. A number thought to be unattainable. Tarrifs should not be allowed to stop competition. Those vehicles are in Europe, Mexico, and Australia. It's only a matter of time before they enter our market. Once again as in the late 70s and 80s, our lazy auto industry focused on profit will fail to do anything. Slowly killing themselves.

I had a Dakota it had small v8 for 4/5 years that was a great truck, only drove it on weekends, [had a company car] changed oil once a year when I got state inspection, traded it in for a RAM with original brakes and battery, I drove through 6" of salt water one time, few months later the complete bottom was solid rust, body was like new, when I traded it anyway, had less than 15k, it had NO undercoating from factory.
This new truck is not that its going to look cool buts that's about it.

if the embargo is lifted .ship it to Cuba( you know if it wasn't for the former USSR they would already be the 51st state, for some reason Puerto Rico keeps declining statehood who's next BC or Mexico? In America we seem to have no "right to repair" laws( that's a fact not political, economic!

Santa Cruz no longer exists, unless you buy a used one.
Wrong. There are plenty of new ones on the lot and you can still "Configure" a New 2026 model year on their website. They days may be numbered but new ones aren't gone yet.

You should check the facts about PR, is not even close to that, the point is the media shows and play to you whatever the big $$ wants you to see, the reality is almost always the completely opposite.
