I travel all over Texas for work. Going west on I-10 the speed limit is 80, so I don't really need it on the interstate. I travel a lot of state highways and FM roads that go through small towns. Where my detector really pays off are the towns where the speed limit goes from 70 to 55 to 30 in about 150 yards (also known as "speed traps"). I have the Escort MAX 360c, and it works very well. I utilize the the EZ Mag Mount positioned just above the dash. The Smart cord USB stretches just the right amount from the windshield mount around the infotainment screen and down to the 12V plug. It rarely gives me a false alarm, and tells the direction the radar is coming from ;)

Yeah, I have an Escort Max in both in my Mav and in my Mustang. I speed. Lots. I got pulled over the first weekend I had my Mav (no ticket), because I wasn't used to scanning in that vehicle and the cop snuck up behind me. In PA, only the state police are allowed to use radar so obviously the Escort didn't help then.

Just a heads up for Virginia. Only state where they are completely banned.

  • Mounting is Illegal: Even if the device is turned off, mounting it on your windshield or dashboard is a traffic violation.
  • Out-of-State Drivers: The law applies to everyone, regardless of where your vehicle is registered.
  • Penalties: Police officers have the authority to confiscate the device, and you can face fines.

What to do if you are traveling in Virginia:
If you are passing through or entering Virginia with a radar detector, it must be unplugged and stored completely out of reach (such as in the trunk or in a closed glove compartment) so that it is not readily accessible to anyone in the vehicle.

Yep! It’s a bummer as I do pass through VA often!!

I've been using the Valentine One for years; I'm on my second one. It usually lives in the ST, but I have a Blendmount mirror mount in both the ST and the Maverick, so the V1 goes where I go.

haven't used one in decades. always was a scam, get a detector, then they'd get a detector detector, you'd get a new un-detectable detector and they'd get a newer detector detector. was funny when you realized both units were being sold by the same company in the end and making money from both sides.

I generally keep my spirited driving to my motorcycle, and haven't had the need for radar on it, but surprisingly I have found that the GPS app I use in the truck (Sygic) is quite effective in the city for flagging police and other roadside hazards. Not recommending it or anything, but it's interesting how effective and accurate these net connected warning systems can be.

Finally something useful done with all my stolen tracking data! lol .

That’s not how it works.

Yeah the Escort radar pairs with an app integrated with Google Maps and other driver alerts are logged. Known speed traps, red light cameras, speed cameras, etc are visible on the map and radar will alert you and give a countdown in feet from a half mile out

It gets even funnier when you figure out your insurance company subsidises the local police departments buying their equipment.

I use Google maps for long distance driving. Even if I don't need directions it lets me know if cops are ahead.

I'm old, don't speed much anymore, and haven't kept up with the technology. Are laser jammers even still a thing?

I recently went down to Tail of the Dragon with the Civic X forum with a buddy in his Type R (FL5). He runs a Uniden R7 and I was generally impressed with the advanced alert of radar that we received. Multiple times running at high speeds he got alerts 20-30 seconds before we saw a cop.

I'm not really a fast driver and I actually avoid the freeway now during my daily commutes because of the hybrid but I do run some decently high speeds on my way to North Carolina and the coast in the summer. That made me look into and recently purchase an Escort Max 360c mkii. I went with it because has GPS lockout for repeat alerts that are not a radar from law enforcement which is nice in a large and developed city.

So far I've had it alert to officers multiple times in that same 20-30 seconds before we could see them. Just curious if any folks have one and what you're running if you do.

I do plan to tap the power above and run. the cord into that so eventually it should look quite clean.

No sir. Virginia where I live, is the only US state where they are illegal for use and even accessibility within the cab. $100-250 fine.

It’s really easy to NOT speed. A radar detector would be useless for me.
It’s also very easy to push 90 too!
