That's true, but my point is a non-truck like pickup isn't something new...

One of the interesting throwaway statements made by somebody at Ford about this truck was that "we're not going after a truck buyer, we're going after the SUV buyer". Now I paraphrased that, but I think I got it right?

If so, it has interesting implications - the designers might not feel so handcuffed by incredibly inflexible truck buyers - who 100% won't buy it if it doesn't look like three square boxes riveted together.
One of the given reasons the Maverick has sold so much better then the Santa Cruz was its looks. That boxy utilitarian shape sells.

The new Rivian R2 is getting people very excited...it is boxy too.

Every smooth bubble fat car truck that tries to be "softer, friendlier" ece ece has failed. If they make this thing a fat bubble pickup ala the baja, its gonna flop.

So we only really have closeups and vague teasers, so it's hard to draw firm conclusions, but just some things I noticed. The rear cab of the truck slopes down slightly for aero near the rear, not a full of coupe roofline, but less flat than the maverick roof.

The cab, to hood, to bed proportions will be comparable to a maverick. Basically imagine what a maverick looks like, make the cab slightly larger, and the hood slightly shorter, and you're in the ballpark. It's also gonna have mach-e style door handles which isn't a bad thing, I think people blow it out of proportion, I find them incredibly easy to get used to and it's more aero efficient and sleek looking.

So with all of that in mind, we know the Ford EV three row canceled SUV got leaked about a week ago. I took that design, and cut the rear glass off with the shitty edit to give it a truck bed. I also cropped the front end out because the truck is gonna have a less rounded and slanted nose than the three row crossover, so it's not relevant.

I don't hate something like this. I think the subtle angle of the cab curving down looks better with the shorter maverick sized bed than a super vertical cab does.

A few other observations, the roofline looks to be about as tall as a maverick give or take, hopefully slightly lower to tie into the sport truck theme which would be awesome. You can see a hint of the sloping roofline as it nears the rear.

This could be me misinterpreting it, and it's not what I think it is, but it almost looks like the rear bedside has a little more muscle than a maverick, a hint of like muscle car hips to it. Look at how much the silver metal extends past the plastic bed molding, and compare than to my maverick from a similar angle. The maverick is pretty slab sided apart from where the metal flairs over the wheel openings, whereas this seems to just flair out more in general.

If I'm right, that's pretty rad. A slightly coupe roofline with a more flared rear haunch would look like a proper muscle truck.

It's still not much to go off of, but this gives us a better idea of the overall proportions of the truck. The rear of the cab appears to be roughly where the presenters left shoulder is. You can see the general shape of the cab, looking slightly bigger than a maverick, and see a hint of the cab angling down near the bed.

The front you can see is shorter, and looks more rounded than a maverick, but still looks pretty truck like. Overall, I like it, it looks like a sleeker taker on a maverick.

While snooping the US patent website for clues to the new EV truck, I came across a patent application for the vehicle assembly method to be used for the new truck. But instead of having a schematic for the truck, this hatchback or crossover was shown. Possibly the second vehicle off the new EV platform?

One thing to keep in mind is that Ford isn't trying to sell this to anyone on this forum. They're gonna keep selling the Maverick, and the spy guys at AutoForecast say a Maverick redo is just three years away.

Ford even said recently, and I paraphrase poorly, "it's not really meant to be a truck". They make a big deal that it has more interior space than a RAV4. And that makes me think "suburban mom". I pulled that out of thin air, but there it is. I suspect Ford might be chasing the crowd that bought the discontinued Escape with this vehicle.

Can't believe I said sleeker taker and not sleeker take. My apologies, I was tired as hell when I wrote this lol, but I just wanted to share it.

It's hard to say, because Fords CEO did say that it's not really a truck, and it's a new silhouette. But as we can see in the line drawing, it looks pretty traditional. Kinda seems like his comments are contradicting what we're seeing.
