It's a financial gamble you lose about 80+% of the time. However, if worrying about out of warranty repair costs keep you up at night, it may be worth your peace of mind.

It's important to understand the difference.
It is a financial gamble. But what do you mean you lose 80% of the time. Does that mean 80% of the time a person will not use the warranty? How did you find those numbers?

Yes, I was listening to a financial show....might have been Dave Ramsey, not sure... but the industry average seems to be about 80/20 in favor of the warranty seller, meaning, only ~20% of the time, will you come out ahead, financially, on the purchase of a long term auto policy.

I was happy to get the Ford warranty which will cover me an additional 65K miles and /or another 7 years - Yes - I am betting that , at a current labor rate of $150 an hour and climbing, that I will have 10 hours of labor and $800 in parts over the next 7 years. And if I don't then I guess I have a very reliable 1st year model that I got out the door for under 22K, so a total of under 25K for 10 years? Yeah, I'm good with that.

They cannot sell them in some states due to restrictions in those states. (Do not have license to sell them or some other reason). However your son or friend who lives in a different state MIGHT be able to Xmas gift you a warranty if he accidentally knew your vin#???

This looks fairly reasonable to me (not sure what was the price when I first bought it):

Thanks for supplying the information on figures. It helps I'm in same boat. Have a 23, warranty expires 11/26. have 12,000 miles on maverick now. Hoping its not Granger, because they don't sell in Florida, as of about 6 mths ago.

Three questions:

1. What company are those numbers from? (if you listed it already, apologize)

2. When it says 5 years/mileage does that mean in reality mean two years (because you have 3 years warranty on it, so 5 minus 3 yrs equals 2 yrs.)

3. Finally, tranny and motor original warranty came with truck is 5 years/mileage.
. So if you bought a 6 yrs warranty, do you actually get One year beyond the tranny and motor

those are the Grangers numbers (sorry!). buy the 10 year warranty - it's the later years when you might really need it - it's only a few hundred dollars more from 8 years to 10 years. The 100 dollar deductible seems to be the sweet start. yes - all mileage and years start on the day you purchased the vehicle new so you are 'pre-buying' the warranty - you get from whenever the factory specifics end until your policy ends. Rates go up 2x a year so it's better to buy now than later for example I should have bought mine in 2022 when i bought the truck the ESP via granger was $1400...i ended up waiting til 2025 and by then it was up to 2200$.

Hi Pigsareus thanks for response but how do you know it was Granger warranty that Thegoodegg was speaking about, even though he may have ? I was responding to GoodEgg who put out the post on warranty. I didn't see where he said it was Granger.

the 10 year, 100k '2265$' number is exactly the price I got from them when I purchased it, the chances that it happened to be some other company would be highly coincidental and unlikely.

No matter what you might pay, be sure you check the coverage for all the escape clauses. Both the manufacturer and aftermarket like to sneak these in. The manufacturers know exactly what the weak points are and should make that the best part of the coverage.
