Here's my advice that I previously posted:

With my 2024 Maverick, I did all my negotiating via email only with the "online sales" guy. Refused to even text. This takes away all their power, and games with trips to the sales manager while you're left waiting like a fool!
He honored the price we had negotiated and the finance guy didn't spend more than 5 minutes trying to get me to buy the extended warranty. This is the only way I'll ever purchase a car again.

But the vehicle isnt worth $80,000. We dont know the trim or mileage, but relatively new Broncos used around me are going for $38-45k. Unless he has a Raptor, even then those are $79k NEW, so he's not getting $80k on trade in. Used with 51k miles, they're still going for $62k, so the dealer could very well give OP a $5000 check and a free Maverick for that bronco.

The dealer is likely going to give him low $30k, maybe $35k if he negotiates. Unless he has a Raptor, then maybe he could get full purchase price. Also OP should consider that in MN you get net purchase price for taxes. If you trade int hat bronco for $35k, you only need to pay sales tax on the $10k difference. That's a $2500 difference in taxes. So if the dealer will give you within $2k of carmax's offer, just trade it to the dealer.
Dealer salesmen love that kind of thinking. Especially after they play the numbers game on a buyer.
I’ve been a car salesman.
A Bronco worth only $35K
Then you pay $10K,
Yeah go on in and try that, might work
But I doubt it,
Gas prices are way up, that Bronco is not the hot ticket right now.

I bet there’s extra markup on the Mav.

Cash talks, trades don’t.

Take the advice of the other guys who’ve never worked in the business. It’s changed since I sold cars. They are likely spot on.

Thanks for the great info - I think we got like $1500 off MSRP from previous vehicle purchase discounts and put 500$ down and signed the order form. They did ask about the Bronco, but we told them we are unsure on what our plans are for that.

We have options on how to make up the difference -I've got a fantastic bank I can finance through but if they want to give us a deal financing through Ford I can make that work as well. When we got the Bronco we did that, waited 3 months and re-financed at new car rates and dropped the rate significantly while retaining the discount for finaincing through the dealer.

Values are easy to find for your area, with all the online retailers. Keep an eye on them, as they change weekly. You can also "test the waters" for free on Carmigo, if you are interested.

It's really no mystery anymore, with all the online info. You know what will work for you, so determine the best way to get there, put in the legwork, and make your deal.

Good luck.

I tested the waters earlier and didn't know that the offers expire (duh, should have seen that coming). I'll try the private party stuff until that last week before delivery and then get my quotes so I can go in loaded with info.

Looks like we’re in the same batch of production.

For what it’s worth (there are so many variables), my dealership orders a high volumes of retail order Mavericks- they estimated 8-10 weeks from order to delivery. I ordered my truck 3/13. Hoping to see it delivered to NE Ohio in early June.

I chose 4 local dealers and emailed the new car managers with exactly what I was buying including color, and the options I wanted, and asked for an OTD price. Negotiations got to my price. I had no trade. I sold new Fords for 10 years and know every perk they get from Ford. Make no mistake, hey make a huge profit on every unit they sell make your offer boldly!

Dealers will attempt to low ball you every time on a trade in. The initial offer for my 2015 2wd F150 was $5800. Got them up to $6600, then $7100. I pushed for more but the Sales Manager said he would retail it for $9k, so he couldn’t do better. Made the deal and they put the truck on the lot for $14,999.00! That’s $9000 over their initial trade offer.
That’s what they do,
They try and lie, cheat, steal, without you knowing it.
The art of it all is the customer goes home feeling like they won the game? Got a good deal.

I sold a 22 FX4 with 15k maverick to CarMax, they offered 6k MORE than dealer, it was a no brainer covered the loss in taxes and gave me a little extra, this was a year ago when the dealers still had 24s on the lots and 25s were coming in, CarMax was a pleasure to deal with took about half hour walked out with a check, they even drove me over to pick up my new 25 lariat.

When it comes in you get to pick which set of offers to use. The ones that were in place when you ordered, or the ones in place when you get it. That is a Ford thing, not a dealer thing. The dealer just picks which incentive date to use. So yes they expire, but those in place at time of order are “locked in”. The only rule is the name on the order has to match the name on the offers.

As far wether the dealer will give you cash difference if the trade is worth more that what you buy, I know my dealer does that.
