Wife and I have her Bronco paid off and we want to swap to something a bit easier to daily drive and the Maverick is it. We couldn't find what we were after anywhere locally, so we ordered from our local dealer who has been fantastic to work with in the past.

We ordered a 26` Lariet AWD Hybrid in Sonic Blue. The sales maanger was able to find a discount under my account and a discount under my wife's info, but I'm not exactly sure what happens when we get to the actual money side of the deal.

I'm not going to let them know up front about our intentions on what to do with the Bronco, I've got a few offers from the usual suspects online and I think I'm going to see if I can private party it before the truck is even delivered - never traded something in before, so I'm not sure what games I should expect. I understand the tax differential on trade vs private party - private party sale would have to be 3k more than the trade offers to have it "break even" although the simplicity of not having to deal with internet rando's is worth something.

Zero interest in warranties, etching, protection, service - none of it. I'm very mechanically inclined and don't expect much out of a N/A drivetrain combo.

Any recomendations or tips?

Nothing showing up on the window sticker URL yet, I've got an order ID and a build week of May 4th. Should I expect to have this thing by June? We waited a LONG time for our 21' Bronco and the last vehicle I ordered before that was way back in 18` - not exactly comparison worthy.

Thanks!

Depending on where you live you could have it by June. I got my vin 10 days before production. My current expected delivery is 4/20-24. My truck was in LA by the 14th and is waiting transport to my dealer 250 miles north of the train yard.

Would head to KBB and see what they say about trade in value for your vehicle. Dealerships usually use KBB as gospel on trades. Take that low/med value and deal with that. I found im better off making the deal on the trade upfront, but, no way for dealer to know value worth until you get your new truck. So, might be asked to sell it to them early, but then you know its locked in. In MO, we got 180 days to buy new vehicle and use the trade against the purchase price. Good luck.

Trading an $80,000 vehicle in on a $45,000 vehicle would not go well with most dealers.
Say your trade in is worth 50k
The Mav, $45,000
No dealer is going to give you a New vehicle and $5,000 in cash for a used one that’s over priced to start with.

You better sell the Bronco elsewhere then go with cash and try and get a deal.

80k? Is it a Rapter? Is it new? WOW..... The dealer aint gonna give more than what its worth minus a profit for them to sale. But, SOME will buy it if if they can turn a profit on it no matter what the cost is - why wouldnt they? They're in the business to sell cars and make money....

However... one will make more money selling it to a private party for sure and cutting out the middle man.

KBB will tell you trade in values that can be thousand$ of dollars less than a private party sale.
Many dealers will make more on the used car resale than they will on the new car you buy, and they do that via a low ball offer.

You can check out the online websites so you have an idea about what you can realistically get, and that is without the hassle of a private sale.

Carvana, Carmax, TrueCar and also Kelly Blue Book will all give you online quotes to buy your car with no obligation. There are others, but those mentioned have good track records.

Compare the best offer with your trade in quote from the dealer, and to be fair, the dealer price on your trade in will reduce the tax on the new vehicle.

Knowledge is power, so don't go in blind.
The dealer may be friendly, but they are not your friend, as their job is to get as much money as possible from this transaction.

But the vehicle isnt worth $80,000. We dont know the trim or mileage, but relatively new Broncos used around me are going for $38-45k. Unless he has a Raptor, even then those are $79k NEW, so he's not getting $80k on trade in. Used with 51k miles, they're still going for $62k, so the dealer could very well give OP a $5000 check and a free Maverick for that bronco.

The dealer is likely going to give him low $30k, maybe $35k if he negotiates. Unless he has a Raptor, then maybe he could get full purchase price. Also OP should consider that in MN you get net purchase price for taxes. If you trade int hat bronco for $35k, you only need to pay sales tax on the $10k difference. That's a $2500 difference in taxes. So if the dealer will give you within $2k of carmax's offer, just trade it to the dealer.

It's a 21' Badlands Sasquatch Lux with 24k on it - private party and trade in ranges seems to be super close (high 35's to low 39's). It could be really close to what the out the door cost is. I'll go in armed with a few offers printed and in my back pocket. That is a narrow window, I doubt I'll get exactly what the site says as I've used this Bronco as it was intended and it shows a little.

It looks like if I were to private party it, I would need to get 37.5+ for it to make any sense. I don't really see any of them in my area with low miles and all the options like mine for anything close to that, so maybe there's a chance. I can always list it high and see what happens - I don't think I can lose either way.

Get a value from carmax
Get a value from Carvana
Take the largest offer and add $1k
Go to dealer, tell them if they match carvana/carmax at that number they get the keys

Dealers will attempt to low ball you every time on a trade in. The initial offer for my 2015 2wd F150 was $5800. Got them up to $6600, then $7100. I pushed for more but the Sales Manager said he would retail it for $9k, so he couldn’t do better. Made the deal and they put the truck on the lot for $14,999.00! That’s $9000 over their initial trade offer.

Always negotiate the drive out price, which includes sales tax and all the other BS they throw in. That way you know your total cost. Know what you can get a loan for (just in case) at your bank or credit union (they offer better rates). Let them think you’re going to get a loan for it as they may be more negotiable and then pay cash or use you own financing unless they give a better rate.

My understanding is that you are better off having that Carvana and CarMax number than KBB. The advice to present the dealership a number based on that and local market considerations is good. If you get a break on taxes with a trade-in, having the dealer take it can help, but if they protect their profit at your expense, just sell it to someone else.

Several years ago, my wife and I tried to trade in a Bronco II and a Camaro for a Mirage and a $7000 truck. The Mitsubishi people kept jacking up final numbers and pretending they could not make more than a few thousand off the Bronco, even though they had them on the lot for nearly three times what they offered us.

They had a cow when we took their offer on the Camaro for the Mirage, but I traded the Bronco to a Dodge dealer for a Colt. They paid off our loan and threw in a radio for free.

Make it work for you, not the dealership.

Get a fast quote from Carvana, they will give you a check when they pick up your car. No hassling with buyers looking to finance, or dealers low ball offer on trade ins. Carvana gives you 10 days to decide if you want there offer, rep comes to see vehicle, hands you a check, and sends a truck to pick it up. Easy Peasy transaction.

In Canada dealers were offering$2500Can on pre orders. Once you have the out the door price with tax and lic, then ask them about the trade in. What it did was get a few online quotes and used the best one to work out a deal.

Make spreadsheets. First determine the price you should be paying for the Maverick after discounts taxes etc. Sometimes discounts get "forgotten" in the paperwork shuffle. Sales tax rate is tricky with the variability by county and city but you should be able to get close.

Make another with the offers you've researched for the Bronco. Keep the trade transaction separate until it's time to sign. If the dealer comes close to your best scenarios, they may be willing to negotiate.

Another thing to consider is loan fees. If you don't have the cash on hand for the Maverick, the extra fees for a new loan may tip the balance to trading with the dealer rather than holding the Bronco for a private party.

Plan to spend a good portion of your day at the dealer and try for a weekday when they are not busy if possible. They may be willing to put in the extra effort to make the transaction work.

For arrival date, expect about a month for transport via rail to MN. Assuming no delays for weather or other factors.
