did you get one? We went through something similar trying to get a ps5 - what a pain in the ass!
Just had a new Costco grand opening on the 9th of December. Opened at 0730 local paper said people lining up 0330. Guess they really wanted a Ps5 whatever that is??

13:1 would require premium in a context. If it was dynamic compression (running compression) but like stated before the valves close late in the compression stroke which will bring down ratio.

The 13:1 is static compression which means the piston at bottom and valves closed compressed to piston at top. Which even non Atkinson engine don't run static compression.

I have to assume those waiting in line knew there were some of these in the new store.

Yes there are places that track when they drop so people can get them. Even if you have advanced notice you can't even log into the website fast enough to get one. It's insane.

87 Octane fuel is recommended by Ford and the better fuel for a 2.5L Atkinson cycle engine. The lower octane fuel has a higher energy density per unit and would provide ever so slightly better mileage in the Maverick Hybrid. (Guessing 2%) The Maverick Hybrid is a very lowly stressed, reliable, system with components that have been in production for 14 years. The 2.5L is really overbuilt for this application and lives an easy, stable, life with the electric motor taking up the slack. This engine combo won Ward's 10 Best in 2010.

87 Octane in a turbocharged EcoBoost is not a good idea. The knock sensor should trigger a reduction in boost in time to avoid engine damage. As a result, the EcoBoost will be down on power and potentially be less efficient overall since it is not running at its optimum boost (compression) levels.

I attended the R&D tear-downs of the original EB V6's. The fact these things survive is really a miracle of materials science and wicked smart engine controls.

??????????
That's what this thread is all about. And the answer has been given: NO. It requires only 87 octane.
According to "First Ford" post, he wouldnt put 87 in his 13.5-1 motorcycle so now i plan to use 91 octane in the Mav.

You know the Maverick's 2.5L Atkinson will only use 90% of that 13:1 compression ratio?

13:1 is a geometric calculation that ignores Atkinson's reduced intake volume. I agree you'd need premium, in a motorcycle because it's a conventional engine. Not so much at the Atkinson's actual ratio of more like 11.5:1, or less. (Atkinson ratio varies as far as 50% fill).

I think you missed a critical difference. My motorcycle doesn't have an Atkinson cycle motor. So the moto sees a real 13:1. The Maverick does not because the intake valves are open for part of the compression stroke. The air-fuel mix in the Mav never sees 13:1.
I will use 87 octane in my hybrid Maverick (if I ever get one).

Oh, ok....thank you for this clarification on the 87 octane......I will also use now.👍🏻

I saw, in the fine print, somewhere on the information of the hybrid that the 40 something miles per gallon was with premium fuel. What, a 13 gallon tank and 10 cents more per gallon, $1.30 more per tank..........I'm going for it.

Where, exactly, did you see this 'fine print.'
