2025 AWD Hybrid making thunk or thud noise from the rear at around 13 mph when braking

OP, Have you heard of any Ecoboost or Hybrid Mavericks with 4K tow that have this clunk when slowing?

I just took a quick look through this thread and it looks like @twntyfive2life mentions the thunk on their 4K tow Maverick - at least that's it shows they have in their profile. Maybe they can confirm that is indeed the case?

Anyone else with a 4K tow Maverick (hybrid or EB) have the 13mph thunk?

Yes was me, I got my rear em diff changed with a new unit but the issue came back once again

Any update on your Maverick and it clunking when slowing down around 13mph? I know you mentioned your dealer changed out the RDU and the clunk unfortunately came back on the newly installed RDU unit. Is that still the case? Anything new to report?

Hey all, the OP of this thread commented on my thread from over a year ago where I had this same issue. I figured I would share the same update here.

My 24 XLT Tremor had this exact issue. 13mph, traction control, everything. I did not have to fight my dealer, they heard it right away.

The dealer kept the truck for months trying to fix it. In this time they COMPLETELY replaced the rear differential and PTU and various other parts. Nothing worked. The only way I resolved the issue was by lemon lawing my truck and getting my money back...

For what it's worth, I did buy almost the exact same truck afterwards (24 Tremor, this time Lariat) and the issue has not been present on this vehicle.

I would bet that this is a computer issue that my dealership couldn't figure out. Especially since the other thread OP linked was apparently fixed with a computer patch.

Hoping you all can find a solution that doesn't involve dumpstering your vehicle!

Has anyone tried to track down the clunk with a remote microphone? I have no experience with microphones, but AI tells me they can be found with either RF or wired sound transmission and Amazon tells me they are available.

I feel like it didn't really happen much over the past few months of winter, definitely happened a lot less frequently. Truck is now at nearly 8k miles. Maybe it'll come back as it warms up?

My 25 hybrid with tow package is doing this. its very slight and if the radio is loud I don't hear it. It is not temperature dependent (for me at least)

Now that is interesting, as most some seem to indicate it goes away in the colder winter months.
And you being in NJ - certainly get plenty of that.

Mine was consistently present all freezing ass winter long unless turning off TC.

yup! I got my Maverick the week before Christmas after Nissan bought back my frontier. Since then I’ve driven it down to Florida as well as ski areas. I’ve heard the noise in below zero temps and around 80.

My 22' EB AWD 4k Tow makes this noise all the time. Bought used at 87k, 88k now.

Just purchased my dads 23 ecoboost awd from him on Monday, has 29k miles all from him he got new. While driving home i heard and felt it do something funny at low speed right around 13mph. Took to my Ford dealership yesterday and sure enough it needs a new rear differential. It has the 4k towing package as well.

Yes, my 20 EB - AWB - 4K tow does it when temp. is over 30 degrees.
