I appreciate the data point. Do you or anyone know why the clunk disappears when we are turning traction control off? Does turning TC off in our Mav's mean that the AWD does not engage at all? I'm asking as I'm not sure what role TC plays with the AWD system's in our Mav's.I drove yesterday with the warmer weather in WNY and the thump noise was back. Turned off the traction control and noise was gone. Should have colder weather again this weekend and will see what happens.
That's good to hear that you don't have the thunk at all in our truck because it really does take away from the smoothness of the truck. How many miles do you have on it? It's just really strange that some trucks do it and some don't.Never had that thunk in mine.
On my truck the noise is usually pretty loud and noticeable. When you are going say 25 mph or so and slow down the noise doesn't seem to be as loud as say if your going 45 mph or so. That's good that you haven't noticed anything so hopefully your in the clear at 11K miles. Once you get up to speed turn the radio all the way down and brake and watch for that 13mph mark and listen for the thunk. By now I would think you would've noticed something as normally the thunk seems to manifest itself within the first few thousand miles. I bought my truck new and didn't notice it until a few months and a few thousand miles into ownership. How loud is it? I haven't really noticed any thunking on mine at any speed, but I also haven't really been listening for it. Currently at 11K miles. It doesn't really get consistently cold enough down here for me to test if there are any temp-related changes, unfortunately.
I have 6,000 miles now. Bought it in April. That's good to hear that you don't have the thunk at all in our truck because it really does take away from the smoothness of the truck. How many miles do you have on it? It's just really strange that some trucks do it and some don't.
I agree with your assessment of things changing around the 40f mark. I'm in SE MI and it's started warming up here again (will probably break a record on Friday with high temp of almost 60). I think it was in the lower 50's here today when I was running some errands and my truck was consistently thunking when slowing down at the 13 mph mark like clockwork. My truck will also thunk in a parking lot at that same 13 mph when it's hot as well. I'm with you that something's not right here but these dealers tend to just say they either can't replicate the issue or they have no idea. I'm not game on letting a dealer have my truck for multiple days or more just to be told there is no fix.As far as I'm concerned, I have a lot of bumper to bumper warranty left.
However, it seems like about 40°f is the bump cold level. When it's hot, i can do it in their parking lot. It will bump at 13ish mph every time on deceleration . I have a 24, with about 6k. I hope that it gets through idiot service writers to the old men i still know. Something is not right. Bought it with literally 200 miles on it.
When you do come up with a fix for the problem please let the rest of us mere mortals in on the secretI mean no disrespect, but I was a ford gasoline senior master tech. Stars id started with 00103xxxx. Im that old. I left the industry because of warranty and flat rate pay issues. The bump is not normal, typical, but not intentional and I intend to use my contacts to fix mine. First I need to easily duplicate it. Basically wait until it warms up.
I bought this cameraMaybe @MarkLally could offer up some pointers on how he and his wife were able to rig up their Maverick and film that awesome video. It would be awesome if somehow using a GoPro could pinpoint where the noise is actually coming from but that might take multliple GoPro's to capture different parts of the AWD system.
