Pulled the cabin air filter out of a 2023 Maverick Hybrid and to my surprise, had this come out with the filter!
This is a first for me to see a piece of paper like this come out. I wonder if it came from the factory this way? Like it was just accidentally left in there during assembly?

Filter was dirty. Truck has under 30k miles
New replacement Motorcraft cabin air filter
FP-100-A has a noticeably more filter pleats.
I’m sure it will filter better, but I wonder if it could slightly restrict the airflow of the HVAC where it will not blow as hard or make the system have to work harder? I did read that those aftermarket charcoal activated cabin air filters can be too restrictive on the system.
Probably best to stick with OEM cabin air filter is my thinking.

And here is my 2022 maverick’s cabin air filter
Mine was cleaner. With a very district and sort of strange in comparison to the 2023, the odd dirt pattern on my 2022.
I really don’t use my AC much which would probably affect how dirty it is overall.

Did you purchase the truck new?

That looks like a dryer sheet on the old filter (to freshen air?)

I tried an aftermarket charcoal filter on one of my Raptors and immediately removed it as it restricted flow ~50%, OEM works just fine...

good luck

I'm not an expert on the air intake for the A/C, but could it be something that was just sucked in as you drove? The whole point of the filter is to filter crap in the air and I see stuff like that floating around the highway all the time.

I was going to throw mine out and not replace it since I drive with the windows down sometimes but apparently this filter protects the heater and hvac system. Buy aftermarket, its half the price of the Ford filter.

Just a note about filters in general, anything that claims "High filtration efficiency" is not gonna have high flow efficiency, and mostly vice versa. Though there are some convoluted and bulky ways to do a bit of both, in general it's a tradeoff.

The OEM motorcraft was only 18 bucks
That’s the same price as aftermarket

My 2025 has the new Motorcraft filter you have pictured. Seems the early model years had a “cheaper” filter?

Because you have to pay for someone to put it in. It literally takes a minute to install. Don't pay these thieves to do it.
$40 total charge to install an $18 filter represents a thief?

It appears he was charged for ~10 minutes of labor...
