Ford to Provide Software Update for 4.3 Million Vehicles to Address Integrated Trailer Module Anomaly

Ford will provide a convenient over-the-air update to the Integrated Trailer Module software in approximately 4,380,609 vehicles in the United States as part of a safety recall. Customers may also utilize mobile service or visit a Ford dealer to update the module. The recall affects certain 2021-2026 F-150, 2022-2026 Super Duty (F-250-600), 2024-2026 Ranger, 2022-2026 Expedition, 2022-2026 Navigator, 2022-2026 Maverick, and 2026 Transit vehicles.

This issue in the trailer control module may cause it to stop communicating with the vehicle, which typically happens when the vehicle is first started. If this occurs while a trailer is connected, the trailer’s stop lamps and turn signals will not illuminate. Additionally, on vehicles equipped with a “High series” trailer module, the trailer’s braking function will also be lost. These conditions result in a noncompliance with federal safety standards and can reduce a driver’s ability to control an attached trailer while making it less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

If a vehicle experiences this communication loss, the driver will see a “Trailer Brake Module Fault” message on the instrument panel cluster, and the turn signal indicator will flash rapidly. A “Blind Spot Assist System fault” message may also appear on the dashboard.

Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fires attributed to this issue.

Starting March 17, the update will be available for the majority of vehicles via Over-the-Air (OTA), dealership, or mobile service. OTA updates are expected to be deployed for all vehicles by May.

Customers can determine if their vehicle is included in this recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or through the FordPass app. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 26C10.

Sounds like all Mavericks are affected, as well as many other vehicles due to a common module.

Does this mean all new Mavericks with tow package on dealer lot have a stop sale? That may affect the sale price for next couple of months and create opportunity of better deals.

Given that the notice isn’t set to go out until some time in March, that’s not a surprise. Some times it’s right away, other times we hear about these days or weeks before it shows up.

I’m excited, this will be recall number 15. Getting close to the 21 consumer reports suggested Maverick owners can expect during the life of the vehicle.

I was expecting tons of recalls but as a 24 owner this is only number one lol

sort of related question ... on my Lariat I created a trailer and entered its length in the center screen.
Then I set that trailer as active after plugging in the connector.

In that situation, BLIS is supposed to monitor your blind spot including that trailer's length but on mine this only works on the passenger side. On the driver's side, the BLIS indicator doesn't light up until passing cars are basically right beside the trailer and into the truck's blind spot

On the passenger side, the BLIS will stay lit until the trailer is clear of whatever I'm passing.

Anyone else?
Mirrors. Forget the tech or your mind will explode.

Of course it reads 'Possibly Affected', so just maybe it's only those with the 4k Trailer Control Module. To further that theory, I checked the owners manual. According to the owners manual, the Integrated Trailer Module (if equipped) is clearly referring to the 4k Tow Controller, and setting the brake bias via the control panel. - No doubt in my mind the reference beginning on page 275 to the Integrated Trailer Module is positively talking about the 4k Tow Controller.

Here's hoping! :)

A lot of recalls are optional in my book.

The last software update was a step downwards for mine. I regret doing it.

I knew I had to act fast when I bought mine this week. They cleared the recall on it last Thursday and I beat this one, so that's good. I have OTA updates enabled and scheduled, so hopefully that's all there is to it.

My 22 F150 had a trailer brake control recall shortly after I bought it, and it looks like it is affected by this recall also, so I'll have two vehicles for the same recall.
