If cooler intake air will not increase the engine output (hp) - why would you install a more robust intercooler in the first place?

More power = hotter turbo

Yes - the intercooler is AFTER the red hot turbo!

I am not sure what you are trying to convince yourself of. If you want a new intercooler, or justification for following a certain oil change interval, by all means do it.

But the improvement in charge air temperature is the spec used by the intercooler manufacturers. The drop over the stock system is often like driving in the fall instead of the summer. Are you changing your oil more often in cold weather because your turbo truck feels snappier? The point is, the actual horsepower gains there are minimal, inconsistent, and would vary based on ambient, which is why intercooler manufacturers usually don't claim power numbers.

The reasoning for swapping out intercoolers has already been mentioned in this thread by more than one person: prolonged heavy loads like towing where heat soak will sap power, and performance tunes. The tunes are what really push the boost pressure to rise, along with the associated charge air temp.

I’m just agreeing with your post 43.

I was half way thinking of getting the intercooler & turbo upgrade once the 300T package became available - but only if it was $1500 or less installed. That now looks impossible without a “50% Off” coupon:)

So my question to CVF and anyone else producing intercoolers for our mavericks (ie, Buscher), is…can you manufacture an intercooler that is larger and more efficient than the seemingly small and minimal 300T Mishimoto IC, but one that Is a true bolt-on like the Mishimoto and doesn’t require the extensive cutting of the current offerings?

In other words, produce an intercooler that is maybe 80% or 125% or 175% larger than OEM versus the current maximum and HUGE 240% larger IC’s, but that will fit behind the lower bumper valance without ANY cutting of the lower shroud or valance?

It’s too bad that NO larger intercooler - even the new 300T offering will fit the Tremor’s “high clearance bumper”, but at least if such a “mid-size” intercooler were available, all other Mavs could bolt this on, and also Tremor owners could also consider this intercooler as long as they were willing to spend the extra $ to obtain and bolt on a lower bumper from a non-Tremor (specifically an FX4 model). I know I would…

Why don't they just stick the 2.3L ecoboost from the mustang in the Maverick? It would be a awesome combo. It would fit.

Without the turbo upgrade and tune, its a waste of money in 95% of applications
“Waste of money” is personal decision?

The extra couple HP from the cooler intake air is worth it for some. Not a good value for me - I’ll pass!

I do use 91 octane to get an extra HP or two though:)

Hey folks,

Looks like the news is out! We're really excited to share what we've been working on with Ford Racing.

The numbers tell a clear story. Our intercooler boasts a 58.8% larger core volume than stock, which helps deliver a 39.6% increase in temperature reduction. We've also managed to reduce pressure drop by 20.1% compared to the factory unit. In practice, what this means is your Maverick will retain power during demanding conditions, whether you're towing, driving in particularly hot climates, or just pushing it harder than usual. We're also very excited about our cast aluminum end tanks that are TIG-welded to a robust bar-and-plate core, which have been designed for better airflow while optimizing existing space. Despite these size increases, this intercooler is designed to fit within the factory package space.

Something I've seen a bit of discussion about in this thread is the installation. To clarify, the installation of this intercooler does not require any cutting (including the active shutters) or evacuating the AC condenser. It's a genuine bolt-on process.

This fits all 2022+ Non-Tremor Mavericks and is only available through Ford. Working with Ford Racing has been an incredibly exciting and rewarding experience for us, and we look forward to seeing these on Mavericks out in the wild. In the meantime, I'm happy to answer any questions you all might have. Thanks!

$1,000 is a lot. Even for Mishimoto.
Larger intercooler WILL help charge temps, especially when heat soaked, especially in the desert temps, especially under heavy loads, will help timing, and when tuned for, will be beneficial for extracting further performance gains.

But, $1,000 is a lot..
Gives me a better idea what the cost of the Turbo+Tune upgrade is going to cost...and as I expected, it will be a lot more than I'll consider.

I hope it sparks aftermarket...still waiting for tuners to figure out the 2025 2.0L and 7 speed situation.

i would say intercooler $1000
2.3 Turbo $2800
Tune $ 800

~$4600 parts + ~$1500 labor= ~$6100 for 50 hp

Ford already sells the 300T 2.3l turbo as a mustang part for around $600 fyi…

Edit…but there will be hoses & parts & etc above the turbo unit itself. I’d guess $2500parts + $1500 labor for $4000…I’ll need a 60% Off Coupon before even considering.

No one is going to be able to give you any of that, because these things are almost always used with a tune. It's a hard sell if you're just going to run a stock truck with it. You "might" get some butt-dyno snappiness, but you can get that for a lot cheaper.

From the Steeda website: "Back to back pulls, hot weather, and towing can lead to increased intake temperatures and the engine reducing power to keep the engine safe. Upgrading to a larger intercooler keeps temperatures in a optimal range for longer and allows you to make more consistent power and keep your engine safe."

Not that the 300T doesn't have more goodies, but you can get 50hp for 10% of your $7,000 number with just a tune, installed yourself.

this300t package doesn't void factory warranty though!

There's a load of asterisks that come with that whole "warranty-voiding" fearmongering. 🤷‍♂️
