Rival Santa Cruz to be cancelled

I know a lot of Ford fanboys will rejoice at this rumor of the Santa Cruz being cancelled.
But the Santa Cruz really isn't a bad vehicle, it's a very comfortable and capable truck and yes the looks are a little polarizing but there are other vehicles with questionable looks that sell well. The interior is really nice and kind of makes the Maverick interior feel like a cheap toy.

I think where Hyundai really missed the mark with the Santa Cruz is with fuel efficiency. People are looking for fuel efficient vehicles more than ever and the Santa Cruz gas mileage is no better than a midsize truck. Meanwhile the Maverick Ecoboost easily beats the SC in fuel efficiency and the Maverick Hybrid mpg rating destroys the SC's mpg rating. Most people looking for a small truck or any smaller vehicle are doing so, at least in part, for better fuel economy.

It was also quite a bit more expensive for the 2022 & 2023 model years but Ford has now raised the price substantially each year on the Maverick and now the cost of Hyundai and the Maverick aren't very far off.

The sad part is now ford has monopoly on the market . But the Cruz was never here for the long haul . No hybird was kinda sign of that it was life style car that had limited time run . The next truck if doenst look like American truck won’t do well either

Ford Motors faces significant pressure from competitors like GM and Stellantis (Ram, Jeep), so I doubt the exit of Santa Cruz will have any significant impact on Maverick pricing. Maverick's high-volume low-margin creates a high barrier to entry for competitors. If Ford gets greedy and raise prices more than necessary to maintain margins, it will attract competition. That's how free market capitalism works, so it tends to be self-correcting. For now, I will keep enjoying my Maverick and see what's available if/when I decide to buy another compact truck.

Every time I see a Santa Cruz it brings a smile to my face! When I look at it I just don’t see a Truck and I don’t see it as competition for the Maverick!!

I keep hearing that Toyota is coming out with a Mav beater, perhaps the Toyota Stout? Can't believe there aren't already some pics. I'm still in my 2022 XLT Hybrid and couldn't be more pleased. 43,000 miles with virtually NO problems and 40+ MPG average 90% of the time.

Kind of saddened this morning to read Hyundai is discontinuing the Santa Cruz next year. I was kind of hoping, in the sense that competition is good for the breed, that they would bring out a vastly improved small truck. Now it looks like their next truck will be Ranger sized.

We considered it. Box was to small. The Mavericks is barely adequate for our needs.

Just because Hyundai is dropping the Santa Cruz, don't think Toyota isn't going to forget the Maverick. GM may also come up with a small truck to join the group, only time will tell!

Looks are the main Ford advantage, along with hybrid version. Build quality and warranty is the Cruz advantage. The Maverick is a cute truck. Most drivers I see are older, like myself. Manufacturers just don't get the attraction of a cheaper economy car base with a truck look. To much like a car and sales suffer from the avid truck person that needs a little less truck or already has a full size truck.

You no I've read a lot of posts on this thread. To be frank I don't see how this affects me or will. My concern is , I feel sorry for the few that purchased one. If it is similar to past vehicles (trucks) from different manufacturers that stopped production, they most likely will take a hit on resale. I hope not but history has a way of repeating itself.

If it is built in the USA, I hope the plant and the workforce has a job and switch to something more marketable. Hopefully they will have to hire more workers especially if the demand increases for whatever they decide to build.

The one big thing that Hyundai has is a 10 year 100K warranty on everything it builds. No other manufacturer does that.

Nissan Cube comes to mind. I didn't buy one, but I adored it. Maybe because a half century ago I had a Renault Le Car in college.

I think I remember a funny little car called a Renault 4 CV, the same times as the Renault Dalphine. Yes, I'm old (85)

Yep and they still couldn't sell them. For some that wouldn't be significant if they lease or turn over ever 4 or 5 years. Ford has a power train warranty 5yrs or 60,000 mile warranty.

Another is the lack of dealer support or dealers which offers the owner of the vehicle ease of service with a Ford even if having issues away from home.

I don't think the warranty was a selling point. It maybe on the used or resale units but doubt it will make much difference. The demand for that vehicle wasn't there when it was new so I don't see the demand increasing after it's been discontinued. Demand of anything will increase its price whether new or used

Back in 2021 I was driving a bland , gutless , Frontier . I saw a few Santa Cruz's around town , thought they were interesting and researched them . Several of the articles mentioned the competition Maverick .
I hadn't seen or even heard of the Maverick . After reading about the Maverick I rushed out and ordered the Hybrid XLT at the introductory price , got the zero percent loan that was available at that time ...waited a year for delivery ....so ....if it wasn't for the SC I probably wouldn't have gotten the Maverick , or , at least the killer deal on the Maverick ....

I, like you, heard about a new small truck Ford was coming out with that was a hybrid. I had a 2005 GMC Canyon (high mileage) truck, and a 2015 Hyundai Sonata, so the Maverick was perfect replacement for both. I ordered my Maverick Lariat fully loaded for $32400 out the door, sold the Sonata to Carvana for $18600 (6K less then I paid for it) and drove the GMC for the next 8+ months waiting for my Maverick Delivered 3/9/22. No problem selling the Canyon for 6K to my neighbor. Added a few thousand to my money, and paid cash, although the "0" percent was tempting, I don't like to have a loan.

I'm saying that a truck that is closer to a Maverick for someone looking to buy, may consider the Hyundai for the warranty. No way would I have bought a Santa Cruz.

Because customers aren't so afraid of reliability from other manufacturers. I remember when Chrysler offered a 7-year/70,000-mile warranty for the same reasons.
