What are the benefits of Forscan

What happens when something in the software breaks that you didn’t change with Forscan and you take it in to get fixed? They’ll know you altered the software so curious as to if they’ll fix it?

You can put everything back to stock if you are worried.... Just do backups of the configure before making any change so you can revert it.

They could possibly see a change that was made. But I am not sure the dealer is going to cycle through my drive modes and count them. They most likely wouldn't know i disabled auto start stop or pay enough attention that my seatbelt warning isnt working.

They could.... but then again, there's nothing that pops up on their screen warning them 'ive used FORScan.

I've had two different experiences at the dealership when having software updates done. Both times I asked the service adviser to have the tech. retain the current settings for the modules. First time the settings were unchanged and I didn't need to revisit it. Second time the settings were reverted to "as built" and I simply went back in and changed them again.

So I believe it depends on the tech. you get, their communication with the service adviser, and if the module(s) being updated are ones you altered the settings on.

The other result - to the likelihood they won't notice because they aren't digging thru settings - is they update a module's software and you lose those settings contained in it.

Always keep in mind that Forscan is made and developed by a Russian. Chose to use it at your own risk.

I have more faith and trust in a random Vlad than I do in Microsoft. I dedicated an entire computer to that virus, and isolate it from my home network.

Anyone who uses MS OS gets what they deserve, tracking of everything they do, sold to the highest bidder. Since you need Windows or Android (another form of spyware) to use Forscan, good luck with that.

I was going to say a mix of Linux and FreeBSD, but with TrueNAS now running the Linux kernel, and my planned migration from pf sense to a Nix-based router, it may be a Linux-only future for me.

All computer operating systems are going to stab you in the taint, but at least you get to select the type of shiv they use.

I actually understood all of that lol! Throw in Proxmox, EndeavourOS, openSUSE, multiple Mac's and I'm good to go! Yeah.. i know, off topic!

Individual things, like software or a single camera aren’t much to worry about, it’s when the data collection companies buy and link all that information that it gets hairy. What they do with that data might not mean much for the most part, it’s usually just sold to advertisers. That said, in the event that data collection company gets hacked it could make it very easy to steal someone’s identity for the purpose of fraud. Lesson? Don’t be careless with your data.
