I like your idea of gray duct tape to help secure the cable - going to add it to my to-do listHi Chops...Happy Sunday! I can see where you have offered "a possible fix" but, I do not
think it's the ONLY one that is causing everyone's problem. I think there are those other causes
mentioned by me and the video on You Tube. Apparently, and doesn't surprise me, that there seems to be more than one possible "Ooops" on the part of Ford.
Did you watch that video with the interior "access panel" removed to view the tube/cable and
how it can easily slip out of where the "guide slot" is located?? When he found and fixed that
he no longer had issues. So, you see, there are other problems causing the issue, and different
ways of fixing them.
And, just so you know...since I have played with hood struts..mostly Redline Tuning, BUT, have in
my earlier trials used a couple other manufacturers struts. They are NOT all the same...trust me
on that. Redline Tuning products are made in the U.S. and they beg, borrow, buy, steal...no!...
vehicles to get proper fit and to tune the strut for that particular hood. That's why I have stayed with Redline Tuning.
I was always fully aware of "possible hood shift" when one bolt was removed from the hinge
bracket many times over. NEVER has a hood "moved" from just one nut, out of 3, caused the
hood to move. Never an issue for me. Could it....yeah possibly....but, the world could end tomorrow....possibly, too.
Also...just a note. The 2 hood "rubber stoppers" that can be adjusted for a lopsided hood, or up to high or too low...so they can be screwed down or brought up. So, that might help the latching
issue too.
So, lots of things for others to look at if and when they have this issue. My first trouble shooting...if needed after I install the Redline Struts, is to see IF I will have any issues. IF I do with the latch issue, the first place I'm checking is inside that access panel and look at that tube/cable guide
slot. IF cable is out of it, I will probably use the "tried and true" everyone's "fix it" tool....gray duct tape!! Cut in to strips and wrap around that slotted guide so there is no way the tube/cable can
slide out. IF that's not the fix...I'll move on to some of the other suggestions.
Gary...we could go on about this forever....or not....LOL!....but, I think we gave everyone "possible fixes" for this issue. Let's call it well done by both of us.....we good??
Cool that we both are "Gary's" and have VB Lobo's! I really like this blue, and I'm normally NOT a
blue painted car guy. This one works for me.
My Conti DWS 06 Plus tires are here. I've installed the console organizer...nice, the glove box one...nice also, the drain screens under hood...not bad...Ford put a flap there..???, and the tailgate
slot hole opening cover. May not be necessary for me, but, what the heck it was inexpensive. And who knows, the next owner of this truck might appreciate it, need it, more than me.
Left to do: Door sill protectors, mount new tires, change out eng. oil to Mobil 1, and apply the liquid
"stuff" to try and protect the plastic interior areas.
OH....forgot about my tri fold hard tonneau cover and mudguards to install. Got to pick them up
at my dealer. I THINK that will do it. One never knows.
We had a 10" snow dump couple days ago....has slowed things down a lot around the city, etc.
Take the Best of Care!!
That cable is the last link to the original Maverick - which in addition to the hood release had cables for the throttle, parking brake, heater knobs, and a cable from the transmission to the speedometer
The EV Maverick will probably have an electronic release for the “hood” like the Lightning & Mach E - losing the last linkage (pun intended) to the original Maverick
