KIA did the same with the Soul and it is also very popular with seniors.
Apparently the cute hamsters/urban hamsters disappeared due to the target market age group miscalculation...

Yeah, my post was kind of tongue in cheek, I know the Ranger tailgate is much wider. Just spit balling here, lol
If you really want to rename the tailgate, get a thin piece of sheet steel to cover the Maverick name, paint it to match your truck and paint or use lettering for any name you like on it.

Me, I like the name Maverick - It's the Legend of the West...

Well, Ford doesn't seemed to be bothered by that. Thinking Escape, Explorer, Expedition, and Excursion. I'm almost surprised they didn't do it.
Excellent point, actually. It would have been reason to name it ranchero even; because of the similarity.

I always wanted a Ranchero and as soon as I saw it said there’s my chance!

Now I have a Ranch-maverick-ero.
Except my 2yo grandson calls it “Bluey”.
Its azure-gray

Also a great old western starring James Garner.

My father, and I have had this conversation several times. I am 53, and when I think of Ranger I think of a small utilitarian truck. In my mind that Nameplate would have been more suited for the Maverick we all currently own. The current Ranger in my mind is just a smaller F150.

I agree that when I think of Maverick I think of the 70’s car initially. I am sure there is some reason the powers that be at Ford when this route, but I believe they should have named the Maverick a Ranger instead.
And made the new Ranger an F100, which hasn't been around since circa 1980ish.

The BS some of us come up with, Roflmao.
They could have named it the Pinto or LTD.
I could care less and I would have still bought it.

After Ford Put the proud Mustang name on that electric car I stopped caring about labels, names.

Ranchero, given what the name means, is just too narrow in scope for the market for this truck. It’s not just for farm hands. If it had another name it should have been in the F-series.

That said, put me in the camp of not caring what the name is.

Ranchero was a regular car front end, single row seat, with a Wagon rear end made into a pickup. Not the same thing at all.

A study group of mostly 20 something aged people were asked what name they liked, and they chose Maverick.

Ford didn't realize what age group would really buy this little truck. Most Maverick Buyers are old enough to remember the Maverick car.

Also the Maverick name was used on an offshore SUV and Truck around 1990. So it's still relevant.
I agree, ranchero was a fairlane

Ford could've went with Courier too. 😉

Either way, regardless of what it's named I would still buy one.

And a Torino and an LTD. The best looking one was the Torino platform IMHO.
