in lucky state there is a grace period between a private sale of the car and the purchase of a new one. so you do not pay sales tax on both transactions.
The other statement you made is correct for my understanding. if you buy out a lease and then sell to carvana for profit, it is a profit. got to pay uncle sam and your state. like any other appreciating asset.

Wait, why would the SELLER pay sales tax on something? That's the responsibility of the buyer isn't it?

You pay sales taxes when you buyout your leased vehicle. This at the end of the lease duration or if you do an early termination.
You do not pay sales taxes on the sale of a vehicle you own fully or that you financed through a bank, because these sales taxes were already factored in the initial purchase price.
Finally sales taxes play a role also when you sell your vehicle and buy a new one. If the transaction is done at a dealer all states impose sales taxes only on the difference in net cost between what you buy and what you trade in.
If you sell your car privately in few states you have to pay sales taxes on the full purchase price of the new vehicle, even if you used the money of the previous sale to reduce your net out of pocket.

So it looks like the used car market is starting to catch up with Maverick data. I still don’t get anything when I go through Carvana. But Vroom just sent me an offer that’s actually more than I paid for my Lariat.

This is promising. I just need it to hold its value until my Explorer ST gets built in the first week of February. I have a feeling the offers are going to go a lot higher between now and then.
Im starting out this trade-up car hack with an over valued 2019 Q50 and 5k cash. Turning it into an almost 60k Explorer ST. Ultimately I’ll be dropping a huge chunk of cash on the ST.

They were the best offer locally. I took the money and ran.

I was hoping my hybrid would be here this week or even next but I don't think that's going to happen.

There is no market value for these trucks so it's very difficult to get a price.

I’m getting a hybrid with luxury package in alto blue. Build date last day of Jan ā€˜22. I plan on selling as well. Things change in 9 months and going to buy wife suv instead. I have no idea where to sell but the dealer I’m purchasing from says just go to another dealer and they will offer 5-7k over invoice. They claimed a customer bought a Ford bronco sport for 27k put 3k miles on it and sold it to the adjacent Chevy dealer which now has it for sale for $37k.. any ideas best place to sell. Twins being born in 6 months and don’t need this little pickup…only reason buying is I heard could make a little money… money that will help with purchasing a suv.

thanks
