Although you feel bad, I'm thinking the Mini owner felt worse...

Sorry you had this incident but thats why we pay for insurance. Stuff happens but you likely will never make that mistake again.

If you’re not in a hurry just look around for a good white door and replace it yourself. It might be cheaper than turning it into the insurance.

It’s the daughter’s car and she loves it, so the parents haven’t told her about it. She is off at college and will be home in a week…

went to the repair shop today and they are figuring the repair will run $7-8000 including a new door. I have a $2000 deductible and this will be only my third claim in 31 years, the first for vandalism and the second for parking lot damage to my wife’s VW Atlas just last August (be careful parking at an assisted living facility - those people are brutal with their own car doors)

I’m embarrassed to say that I just sideswiped a parked car trying to park along the curb on my residential street to take a pic of the supermoon without wires in the way. I cut over too soon 😡

And this is why I have never owned a new car. I’m sick.

I haven’t had as much as a scratch on my cars that was my fault since the 70s.

Maybe it’s a sign of impending senility.

P.S. And the pic of the moon is lame…

Don't feel too bad. In 2004 I bought an F250 crew cab long bed and used it as my daily driver (my previous DD was a small Mitsubishi SUV). Of course, before I had even 1,000 miles on the F250, my employer needed me to attend a business meeting in NYC. The parking garage was typical for that location, with very tight turns to make with my l-o-n-g truck. I nearly made it to the street, but when making a rh turn pulling out, I had to pull futher to my right to avoid a car on my left that was parked where it shouldn't have been. The result was that I scraped a bollard that was just below my line of sight, and put a real, nice, long, indented scratch in the the side of my bed from just behind the cab, nearly to the tailgate. I should have just rented a car for that trip...

Ouch! That will suck. It's been a few decades since I had to go through the process of moving past the delusions of adolescence and learning how unpleasant real life can be, but I still have some pretty vivid memories. It's a necessary part of growing up, but that doesn't make it pleasant.

Wow - $7K-$8K for the door and a minor rear fender scrape with a $2K deductible? Ouch.
No wonder insurance rates are way up! Was that an estimate at the Mercedes dealer?

I'd be looking for an alternative. At least another couple of body shops if not maybe finding a white rear passenger door from a front end total...

As for the soon to be depressed Mini owner, was there a song, "The First Scratch is the Deepest"? Okay it was a cut, not a scratch, but with a new vehicle, it's going to happen eventually, unless the vehicle is sealed in a glass box for viewing purposes only, like in a prior stupid Toyota guy commercial.

Hopefully she is happy to be back home and gets over the cosmetic damage.
Good luck.

Ouch. That sucks.

My buddy’s wife sideswiped someone‘s car recently in traffic by not checking her blind spot.

This is her BMW X5:

It was totaled. Insurance paid out $40k.

This is the Range Rover she hit:

Payout on the Range Rover is unknown.

My buddy replaced the X5 with a new X7.
This is his monthly insurance bill before the accident, and after the accident with the new car:

I’ve hit my own cars twice. Or rather hit an old farm truck with a Nissan Altima (truck was fine) that looked a lot like your Maverick does but then a drunk driver killed the car before I could get it fixed.

Then we have the world’s smallest two car garage and driveway. I was trying to back my model 3 around my wives odyssey an hit it. Put a nice dent in the model 3 - had to drive to Chicago for PDR but they did a great job.

Ditto, the one time I needed to free the brakes on my old Jimmy S15 from sitting too long, and I drove the old minivan into it with a tire between them. And the other time, the head was off my old Escort and I needed it moved nearer the light and power and nudged it with the other minivan... I didn't have the tire lined up right that time and bent the license plate. But as fun as bumper cars in your own driveway is, I have thus far not managed to manufacture another excuse to do it since.

I applaud your courage for admitting making a mistake. A senile individual tends to deny their mistakes. Rest assured Sir, you are not senile.

If you live in PA, I'm surprised that there isn't any snow on the ground. I have seen so many crashes on the news lately because of the winter storm that is racing across the country. Yeah it bites that your truck got banged up a bit but you didn't get hurt. Can't say the same for those folks on the snow slick hwy.
