The “compact” Maverick is indeed compact compared to an F150 but so are a lot of vehicles.
I’ve heard many say “it’s small” or call it a “trucklet”. This so called compact is 8” longer than an Outback, 6” longer than a Grand Cherokee, 2” longer than the biggest Land Rover Defender, and almost 2” longer than a Tesla Model X.

The Mav width is identical to the Outback yet no one refers to any of these vehicles as “compact”. This is a Jedi mind trick. Admittedly, Ford markets it as a compact truck and has re-created the compact truck market but this vehicle is far from compact.
When I get mine, I’m expecting someone at work with an outback or grand Cherokee to mention how nice it is “but it’s so small” and I’ll have to share the tale of the tape with them.
Speaking of Jedi mind truck digging the verse, kinda hilarious, e.g. driving like a maniac. Wife doesn’t like smaller SUV’s but loves the bronco sport, which I find hilarious. She said how small the maverick looked but her bronco sport is shorter than the maverick, Ford just gave the illusion of a bigger vehicle because it sits high up. Jedi mind tricks indeed!

The driving position feels lower than in my Forester, so it's a no go. One of the appeals of a truck to me is a nice high perch. Mav isn't a small vehicle, but it's the smallest pickup besides the Santa Cruz.
Well to me it’s high compared to my last car so I’m happy 🤷‍♂️ To me that’s all that matters lol

Nobody else's opinion should matter to you but yours! :) Glad you like your trucklette

You get it re: the size thing. The Bronco Sport appears big because of the squared shoulders vis a vis the dainty appearing CRV. A Jedi mind trick.
IIK920 used to be spot on until I got a wife and I granny drive when she is with me. I used to race at Mid Ohio. That was thrilling.

I had a guy in a Ridgeline make fun of me if that ain't the worst! His vehicle was bigger, after all.

I'm looking out the window now at my 190" 2010 Ford Ranger single cab, which is 10" shorter than the XLT Maverick I have on order. It's all in the observer. To this observer, the Maverick is not a small pickup truck. It's less huge pickup truck.

I wonder if anybody at Ford has considered firing the inept product planners who made them miss delivering the Maverick a decade ago because "nobody wants a small truck". Those same clowns are probably telling management today "nobody wants a single cab truck".

I agree entirely. I have a Ford Flex, and no one would ever call it small. I was actually looking forward to going back to a smaller vehicle when I got my Maverick, only to realize it is basically the same length as the Flex. The Maverick is just small when compared to current trucks - and it is lower to the ground than current trucks, which I think is what makes people misinterpret the actual size.

I agree, I like that you can just slide into the seat of the Maverick and reach over the bed. Going to be very useful and easy to live with day to day.

I agree. I had a mid '90s S10 and loved the size. I'm short and am looking forward to the usability of the bed for me.... if I ever get mine. Hybrid with no productions date yet (same as the majority here, I guess)

OK, let me show you where you are just wrong. The mav is a compact TRUCK, not a compact car.
No one in this world would argue that an 06 Ranger was not a compact truck so here are the specs compared.

One thing that should be noted is that the length of the Ranger is without the rear bumper so add at least 4 inches to that.
You touched on the one metric that I use to define a compact/midsize/full-size anything...body width.

At least for me, anything 70" or narrower is "compact", anything between 70.1-77.9" is "midsize", and anything 78.0+ is "full-size".

The rest to me is an illusion. A '99-'07 Silverado is 78.5" wide and most would define it as a full-size truck. A brand new 2022 Silverado is 79.9" wide (cuz anything 80" or wider needs clearance lights, like the Raptor, GMs with Quadrasteer, or dually pickups), but a lot of folks say trucks are "big" these days.

Yes, the cabs have been stretched. But the hoods are flatter, the grills are taller, and the beds are deeper, which to me just gives the impression that the truck is bigger. But a '22 Silverado 4x4 is actually shorter at 76" overall height compared to a '99 Silverado 4x4 at 77" overall height.

Like being able to reach the glovebox from the driver seat.
I drove rental F-150s for a few thousand miles and it was pretty hilarious since I had a backpack in the back seat that would slide from side to side with turns.

I got my Maverick with the tow package, and I figure if I ever really need more room for hauling, I’ll just buy a small enclosed trailer.
I agree 110%! Fortunately there are several U-haul dealers (not gas stations; actual branch stores) near me, and the 5x8 enclosed is about $30/day including all taxes and fees. And I'd rather tow something in a enclosed trailer than freakin' tarp and tie down loads to survive a category 1 hurricane for however long the trip is.

I’m a believer in the thing only needs to be as big as it does to get the job done. So them guys out there with their bro-dozer Dodges with the decapitator side mirrors and 38” tires can laugh at my small truck all they want.
I also agree. I mean, some folks drive what they want because they can afford it. And for those folks, more power to 'em.

I had an F-250 crew cab long bed 4x4 (172" wheelbase). I could easily afford to drive it as my only vehicle if I wanted to. I didn't have an issue driving that truck if I needed to tow my 20' enclosed trailer. But driving it to the grocery store required a lot of unnecessary thinking power, whereas my Nissan Frontier drives as mindlessly as a Camry.

Even if I still had a big trailer, I'd consider just renting a truck to tow it, rather than owing a truck that I really only needed maybe 8 times a year.

2022 f250 super duty 232-266″ L x 80″ W x 78-82″ H

Yes the width is the same but the newer trucks are definitely bigger

You got the point of the entire post while others did not. While the Maverick is indeed a compact (truck) as I stated in the first sentence of the OP, as a block of steel on wheels, it is not as compact as many so called midsize. You illustrated that point quite nicely with the Flex reference which is rather huge appearing. My wife hates it because it’s too big. I love the flex. I took the kids for a test drive in a turbo7-8 years ago and we still talk about that drive. . One guy at work was poo pooing the Mav as little and he shut up when I mentioned it’s bigger than his midsize Grand Cherokee.
