Just curious. What's the age of the Maverick owners on this site? I'm 61. Any women owners? At our dealership, most Maverick owners are older (50+) and male. I think I've seen only one female Maverick owner at our dealership. I don't think I've seen any who are under 50. The Maverick seems like it would be something that would be popular with young people given it's practicality and entry level price. But the young people I've talked to personally like the way it looks, admit it'll meet their needs, but aren't interested in buying it because they seem to think it's a old man truck .
77 years old.... My '22 Lariat now has roof racks and a raised bed rail bar for kayak transportation. have not had the need for a larger truck----yet!

72 years old and drove F-150’s for over forty years. ‘24 Maverick Lariat now and would not go back to a full size truck.

69, male, '22 hybrid - an absolute no brainer at 21K out the door - so glad to be rid of car repair bills, have had 0 problem and bought the extended warranty so I'm good until 2032 :}

68; my Maverick is my 2nd truck. My first was an '88 Nissan King Cab SE-V6 that served me well for 13 years; replace by a Trooper (2001-2013), and then an Outback (2013-2024)...I usually take my vehicles to 250k miles when I begin the process of "what's next". The moment Ford announced the Maverick I thought it was brilliant... a smaller vehicle with a decent cargo area. I had considered a Ram and F-150 but they were just too big for me; on the extremely rare occasions I need heavy hauling, there's a U-Haul and a Home Depot 10 minutes away.

The aspect that the Maverick would offer a hybrid version sealed the deal for me. I ordered a '23 in Sept. 2022 but got bounced to a '24 because of manufacturing challenges. I'm very pleased with my truck; it's comfortable, highly useful, and I'm averaging 42.5 mpgs over 25k miles. No complaints.

My dad had a customer who was in construction who reluctantly traded his 1976 f150 with a 390 for a 1993 (I think) Mazda B2200. I believe it was the last year before they started selling rebadged Rangers. He could no longer justify spending the money it took to feed the 390. He said that he could almost make the Mazda payment in the fuel savings. The Mazda bed was often filled to capacity. But it wasn't overloaded.
The 69 F100 had a 390 as well! My F150s had the 300 L6. A beast of an engine. Would pull anything and you almost could not kill it. One of the best truck engines ever made.

As for the Mazda, it was a "King Cab" that had little sideways facing jump seats instead of a rear bench. You can really load down that little beast and it would not complain. Loved that little truck. It was our only car and the car seat for our new baby would not fit in the back. SO traded for a F150 king cab. (Not a 4 door as now days).
My Mav makes me nostalgic for that little Mazda. But now with 4 doors, the car seats for the grandkids fit just fine!

Demographics of new car buyers - all light cars & trucks, not just Mavericks.

I couldn't find a more current chart than this one from Statista but many articles say the skew towards older buyers has gotten dramatically worse since 2017.

I suppose young people today are spending their money on non-essentials like rent and groceries.
That first new car is a milestone. After that initial investment, selling it or trading it in to get the NEXT new car is subsidized. Older buyers also, as you said, have fewer things to spend money on, and higher incomes due to experience or position in a company. Or retirement and empty nest; I never realized how much I spent on the kids living at home until they both had moved out to go to college.

On car trading, in recent history the genealogy of my daily drivers:
2000 Tacoma SR5 4x4 excab purchased $23.5k, sold $16k
2003 Sprinter (bought 2006 with 15k miles) $22k, sold for $15k (with 350k miles)
2015 Transit(not Connect) bought new for $26k, still own but valued at $16-20 given comparisons
2024 Mav purchased new for $27.5k (all taxes and fees included)

I see a pattern here, but it doesn't really take inflation into account. Basically, my well-used vehicles pay for 60-70% of the new replacement when sold. Which all started from that initial new car purchase; an '84 Samurai. There were used daily driver cars before that, and used daily drivers cars since, but only for short spans of time.

That gap seems appropriate. A lot of people held on to their last gen Ranger until the Maverick came out. 😅
I would of Still had the 2008, except had a flat. Spare wheel was rusted, leaked. Ford no longer stocked the wheels.
Found out about the Mav. Sitting in the showroom..

Dec. 10th Did the research that weekend.
Dec. 12th Looked over the only one in town.
Dec 13th Put down, deposit to order a 2023. Went to X-mas Party after. Talked to someone there who bought one.
Dec. 15th looked up that Dealership. Put down payment online.
Dec. 17th left Milwaukee 5:30am Returned Home 7:00pm with New Maverick...
This Dec. 17th will be Three Years...

Wow the 2000 Ranger served you well. Hope the Maverick does the same.

I hope so too. This is my third and last new vehicle (wife goes new car every few years. The rest of the story is I put $2500 down on the new 2005 Ranger. Went to work and asked if they could pay for a new truck for me. The owner gave me the $350/month to make my payments till it was paid off, so it was in my name, my truck. So I had $2500 invested in it and got $3500 when I sold it a 300k miles! He paid for gas too, I covered the maintenance. I'd say that was a great deal.

Bought my Maverick Tremor at 38, just turned 39. It was my first truck and my 3rd Ford, my first being a 2012 Ford Mustang at 24 which was also my first car.

I always wondered why Ford didn't call the Sport track a crew cab ranger. In my opinion, that's what it was. I never understood why it didn't sell better.
In my case it was the price, followed by the then well known poor fuel mileage as a used vehicle. Initially, I really liked the concept, but the MPG's kept me from pulling the trigger more than once on used ones. I had gotten used to good mileage from my smaller trucks and was not going backwards.

If it makes you feel better, my 17 year old son drove it to his all boys high school for a few days while I was fixing his 2009 Toyota Prius. All of his classmates loved the vehicle, including the rich kids who drive Teslas, etc.

They all wanted to hop in the bed and ride around campus. To my knowledge my son was smart enough to not let that happen.

I ordered it when I was 56.

Because they had it priced like an Explorer, rather than a Ranger.
