We have been interested in getting a Travel Trailer for about 10 years. Finally bought one today. It's a 2025 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 170BH. Total length is 21ft, empty weight is 3000lbs and maxed out is 3750lb. The hitch weight is 315lbs. It's getting cold so probably won't use it until next spring. I think I got a good deal (15k out the door) since they are starting to get 2026 models in and this is the slow time of year for RV sales. I hope the Maverick will do a good job towing it. I guess I will find out when I bring it home next week.

You should be fine. Get some clip-on or strap-on rearview mirror extensions, it'll make the tow a lot more enjoyable

Are you getting a weight distribution hitch?
Not sure yet as I know they aren't good for unibody vehicles.

They're fine. I've towed for thousands of miles with them across a few unibody vehicles and had no issues.

With a tongue load close to 400lbs, the Maverick's front end will feel super light and floaty without one

And before someone says "they're not recommended", please show me where this is indicated by Ford?

It's not recommended by most weigh distribution hitch manufactures, that tells me enough.

Even the RV dealer said it's not a good idea.

I looked at at least three or four of the big companies websites, they all say not recommended for unibody vehicles. A few with throw out something like, unless the manufacture says they are okay in the owners manual.

As long as that Jayco has adjustable electric brakes you’ll be fine. Use Tow Haul to help the 2.5L hold the rpm’s up.

Piece of free advice: Before you go on your first trip, go out on an early morning to a big empty parking lot with your truck, your trailer, and some traffic cones. Practice, practice, practice backing up into a variety of different situations. Use your mirrors and judge how you do; use your backup camera and judge how you do. Guarantee you'll find some of the "tolerances" for both a little off, which will help you learn in a hurry what is ACTUALLY happening behind you, making you that much more confident on your trips.

Will be time well spent!
