It's shocking what an entry level model pickup can be priced at when slapping on just a few extra gadgets and trim. In my mind; if you're paying more than $30k for any trim level of Maverick, you've been had. Once you get above that, there are MANY better equipped, more capable, better materials, better ride pickups to choose from at the same price point.

I asked by chat what was included in the 30K of accessories (should be another XL Hybrid AWD w/4K towing) and was told this was an error that they are working on correcting the listing.

UPDATE 9/22/2025 : still working on correcting the system error.

Keep in mind I BOUGHT a Mav, and I am pretty studious about vehicle purchases. At the time of purchase, it was the best thing for the money that met all of my needs for a vehicle acceptably. I would have spent an extra $5k or more for something similar (40+mpg) with a club cab and 6'+ bed, though.
At the end of the day that's what matters. Are the higher packages worth the money? I wanted ONE feature in this truck that would make me go to a higher trim level to get it and to me it wasn't worth it. Everything else (like better tires) I could do cheaper and better.

sure!
At the $45-50k price point mentioned for the Mav Lariat above, you have Ranger Lariat 4x4, F150 XLT and STX, top of the line Hyundai Santa cruz with all options, Ram 1500 Bighorn 4x4, Silverado 4x4, Tundra SR5 4x4, Toyota SR5 Offroad with premium package, etc. I think all of these are better equipped, use better materials, and have better ride and performance than a Maverick. However, they do not get anywhere near the mpg of the Mav hybrid. If you go up to $55k, there are higher trim packages and options for all the above mentioned pickups except the Hyundai.

BUT, below $30k there isn't any viable competition for the Maverick XL. That's where it is king among peasants.

Was going to ask if "installed accessories" refers to an XL on a trailer... :D
That would be a great Lariat accessory, like a trunk monkey, any time there's dirty work to do, use the XL

It just gets tiring defending spending money on a Maverick when people say “it’s a $21,500 truck and spending any more is a waste”

When the current generation F-150 had a base price of $31,00 when introduced - so by that rationale spending anything more than $31,000 is a total waste of money.

At $38k there is not another truck available that has 4A, and AWD is a huge selling point.

Rangers with an MSRP in the low $40s have a very small subset of the luxuries that the Maverick Lariat, no 4A, awful efficiency - and as crappy interior materials.

Even though it doesn’t fit what I want… I should buy it and feel better because the base price is $35k and I’m getting “More truck” at $42k.

That’s seriously flawed logic to me.
to be fair, the higher trim levels of Maverick and the other makes and models also didn't have everything I'd "want", but the Mav base model had everything I "need". i.e.; I'd "like' AWD but I don't "need" it, especially with a FWD, which is just about as good on ice and snow covered roads. Not that I get to drive on slick roads very much anymore. I saw nothing but diminishing returns with Maverick trim levels higher than base model XL (for the price increases).

My point; no one makes something that has all my wants and needs in one vehicle, even if I was going to dump the price of a small house into it. The high MPG of the Mav Hybrid was/is my main attraction to it, and I didn't need to get a higher trim level to have that.

So instead of saying anyone who spent more than a barebones XL Maverick was had your back position is anyone who buys more than a base model vehicle is being had?

Bottom line is that a Maverick is no different than nearly every other vehicle sold today in that it has a base price with various trim levels and options that you can add to said base price.

A $90k F150 starts on the same platform that the $30k F150 does.

But the Maverick Lariat owners paying $7,500 over base are getting had? lol.

that's how they make their 'big bucks' - when the Mav came out at $21K Ford was pretty happy when many started lumping on all kinds of extras and upgrades, they learned that while there are plenty who wanted a base truck that there were more than enough that would pony up substantially more and give them a much larger profit margin. Subsequent years they decided to limit XL production and concentrate on manufacturing the higher profit orders.

When they were introduced at $21k, I doubt very many people actually paid less than $25k with the popularity causing dealers to take advantage and place "additional cost". I held off until the "employee pricing" thing this last Spring and paid a little less than MSRP.

I was one of the fortunate ones to order in sept 21 and get it in october '22 - pure base XL, 0 options, even got a $500 local discount, I walked out of there for under 22K including taxes, no pressure to upgrade, no 'fun and games' - simple transaction. I was very fortunate.
