What type of payment do you take when selling truck

Just wondering if people still take cash,check bank certified check or what ever?personally,being a old man,boomer ,whatever,

Another proud boomer: I took a bank check when I sold my last motorcycle. Guy was an investment banker and I checked him out online. Figured it was very unlikely he was a thief and i was correct.

I sold my last two cars to Carmax. They gave me a very fair price - actually about 2500.00 more than a dealer offered as a trade in. Got my check from them within an hour and handed the title over. Did not have to worry about transfer of ownership as well.
Otherwise for me cash is always king, followed by a bank certified check.

I just sold my JetSki after making the move from NY to TX. Received a certified bank check and we met at my bank. Had the teller call his bank to verify the check, deposited and went to the parking lot to unhook it from the Maverick. Even if you take cash, meet at the bank and have it verified to be safe.

If you are selling a car, or your Maverick, that the price is over 3K, I would insist on going to your bank, and have a large transfer of funds done there. No one has 20K in cash laying around, and in todays world, I don't trust any checks no matter what kind they are.

Go to THEIR bank and do a money transfer to your bank. That is the only way I've sold my cars and a couple of jet skis. Money orders and Certified checks are stolen all the time so while they look and feel legit they are not.

Take a picture of the buyer and their driver’s license.
Have the buyer Wire transfer (bank to bank) full funds into your bank account.
Give the buyer a receipt with the wire transfer transaction number on it.
Allow 3 business days for the transaction to verify.
Then and only then, sign and confer the title to the buyer.

Meet at the bank, do your bill of sale and title work there and take Cash or Certified Check from the Bank Teller
People can pass along fake cash etc

A lot of good replies.
In today's world, funds can be almost instantly verified, so waiting for a check to be cleared isn't much of a "thing". But, if someone can write a check, they can also do a money transfer or get a cashier's check.

Extra care needs to be taken when there isn't an intermediary (such as a bank teller). Cash is easily faked, as well as checks and credit cards, at least as far as a layman is concerned.

Get a picture of their drivers' license as well.

Anytime you deposit $10,000 or more in one day in the bank it is reported to the Feds... Was a banker and bank auditor.... They are looking for money laundering among other things.s

1. Cash (at buyers bank)
2. Wire transfer ( again, at bank)
3. Bank check. Yup, buyers bank.

Bank wire, takes 15-20 minutes and cash is in your account. Sold almost all my vehicles that way... If you have a lean on the vehicle, meet the buyer at your bank/credit union with the title and sign it there, while your getting the incoming bank wire.. then both parties know everything is legit...
