Maverick Down (Totaled), But Very Safe Truck

It’s with a heavy heart I’m posting that my Maverick is totaled.

I was t-boned yesterday on the way home from work by a guy going 70 that ran a red light, he struck my front driver fender and door.

Thank god this little truck is the perfect height and very safe or I wouldn’t have walked away with only a few bruises.

Could’ve been a lot worse and I’m thanking god and Fords safety features in the Maverick that I’m still here.

I'm beginning to think people all over are nuts. It has gotten to the point that when my light turns green, I take the time to look both ways to make sure everyone will stop before I proceed. I've witnessed too many red light runners to not do that.

Blessed! I am feeling frustrated at the other driver. What a punk. I hope that his insurance company can get you in a new Maverick Lariat with the BAP and give you a payday quickly.

The RARE AF 2024 Maverick Lariat with the Area 51 paint job and BAP (which was definitely a long-awaited custom order) will be next to impossible to replace one-for-one. They are going to have to break you off something nice.

In ‘89 my B2200 was hit on the passenger side fire wall at 55mph in downtown Portland Oregon. They ran a red light. A friend borrowed my car that day. The firewall saved the driver of my car, there were no airbags then. When I saw the 6 month old truck I could only think how lucky my friend was. Not my Mazda B2200. It was spun around and hit every corner of the intersection. The stereo and all the dash was destroyed. We got a lawyer. I don’t think it was no fault then.

Wouldn't no fault insurance mean that in this case your insurance will pay for your loss and the other driver's insurance will pay for his?

yep - that's the idea - the 'victim' can also sue (called 'mini-torte') the offenders insurance company to pay for the deductible - typically this is an easy process. Only variant with no fault is if your car if parked and someone runs into it then the offenders insurance co has to pay. Other caveat is that your policy has a mandatory 'uninsured motorist' provision where if you run into someone who does not carry insurance you may be liable for at least part of their damages.

And that is why I am glad Virginia did not adopt no fault. The bad driver should have to pay for their recklessness. When I moved to Virginia the local insurance agent did a review and said I didn't need uninsured or under insured motorist because "it is a law that all cars have liability insurance in Virginia." My retort was "it is also a law not to shoot people but it happens every day in Virginia." 2 of my kids had vehicles totaled by drivers with NO license or insurance in Richmond. I was rear ended while in another state in 2011. My insurance said " take it where you want for repair, get a rental, and we will get the money from the at fault driver." Not 1 penny out of pocket and it turned out the other driver had good insurance that paid without an issue.

no fault for sure has it's negatives - the only good thing is that generally there is no need for any court case. What would happen in Virginia if the at fault driver didn't have any insurance....or assets? Then your ins co wouldn't really have any recourse and they'd be footing the bill.

His story was he was late leaving work and in a major rush to get home so he ran the light as he didn’t see anyone in the intersection, no impairment, just an idiot in a rush

I've been that idiot before. In fact, that's how i ended up with the maverick. I Totaled my 2011 focus. on my way home from work. I was less than 1/2 mile from home getting ready to make the last left turn. Had church that evening and needed to get home and get cleaned up quickly. Absentmindedly and stupidly turned in front of a 4 runner. Between her attempting to swerve and the way she hit, her vehicle flipped over then landed upright. I was uninjured. I was terrified and thought the worst. She was bleeding and banged up. Thankfully she had her seatbelt on . Otherwise she likely would have been at least partially thrown out. She spent 4 days in the hospital thanks to my negligence. She was less than a mile from her destination as well. My aunt was nearby and was a God-mother to the lady. Thankfully the woman recovered. I don't know if i could have lived with the guilt if she had been killed through MY stupidity.

I have spent the last 18 months training my son up to drive - that's how I wound up here - and the #1 thing I have drilled into him is being late is not a problem to concern yourself with when you are driving. At all. It doesn't matter. When you are driving the only thing that matters is getting where you are going safely. The cost of rushing, whether via accident or a ticket, is simply too high to risk, and far higher than being a few minutes late to literally anything else you might be getting to in your personal vehicle.

Like everyone else said, glad to hear your injuries are minor, that you’re ok. I’m also amazed at how damaged his vehicle is versus your Maverick. Hopefully insurance takes care of you to minimize the inconvenience.

get a accident/injury lawyer and let them take care of everything from here...a lot less headache on your part especially since it's clear who's at fault

teaching my 17 yr how to drive, she's taking her exam next month...i always tell her worry about all the other drivers and assume they're going to make the dumbest move out there. Unfortunately, seems like everyone these days are rushing or just DGAF attitude.

Good luck to your daughter! It's a line to ride for sure, you have to assume things are going to proceed normally but you also have to be prepared for anything to happen, and have secure control of your vehicle if said anything happens. Teaching the kid to drive also reinforced better driving habits in me, it was interesting.

It's definitely a good refresher course for me. Ive been driving 30 yrs now and I've forgotten some of the little details of driving here and there.

Still proud that when I was 16, I was driving my stick shift Corolla, no back up camera, no GPS or waze or apple play and I was taking Freeways and highways Even drove Cali to Texas and back

Yes, but the insurance company goes after the at fault person. No fault, in my opinion, rewards bad drivers and punishes good drivers. Insurance spreads the cost evenly in no fault states so your driving record doesn't lower your rates. The rates are based on the driving habits of the bad drivers. Just a theory. Can I ask what you rates are and coverages? I guess it would negate the need for high liability insurance. Also how many personal injury lawyer ads and billboards are there? I know here billboards every where saying if you were in an accident they will make the other guy pay.

I pay 1200 a year via state farm, i have an excellent driving record - 250 ded for comprehensive and 500 for collision and I have some reasonable (I forget exactly) medical coverage. Oh, and I'm old! lawyer billboards? all over the place - same with tv commercials. Michigan went with no fault because court cases took forever. The only thing about the ins co going after at fault persons in regular insurance states is that there are some who don't have any assets or a job so you can't really get any $ out of them.
