I have a 2022 XLT hybrid. The last 3 attempts to gas up I've had problems. It starts with the fuel door opening takes a couple of attempts, then the gas pump keeps shutting off no matter what position the pump handle is in. last week I was able to get about 10 gallons in, but then I got a CEL P04B4 code which went away the next day. Today I only got 5 gallons in and quit because I didn't want another CEL. Any ideas?

Try stopping when pump clicks off and driving for a time hopefully getting tank about half full. Cycle the filler door open daily and close it. Pump gas in at slowest speed setting on pump handle. I do not recall exactly how much it was but my truck was hit requiring the drivers rear quarter panel replacement. Work done at Ford approved independent body shop to Ford specs. The filler assembly not damaged in wreck had to be replaced because the attaching bolts were one-time usage and were not available individually from Ford at least at that time. It was several hundred $. Maybe only partially filling tank will help clear out captured fumes in your case. When you got the 10 gallons in was it in one click off of pump handle? If so that would be a positive sign of sorts.

I appreciate the responses! I am awaiting a new Maverick awd hybrid and want to make sure this is fixed before I trade it in. I'm hoping it's a diy fix, since I don't want to spend a lot of money and it's got 70,000 + miles on it, so it's well out of waranty .

Emission related should be covered under 72/100,000 emission related warranty, check with a couple dealers as alot don't know.

Is this problem with the same pump or same gas station? Some cheapo stations are not maintaining their equipment properly. When the end of the nozzle is peened in, it will shut off at the slightest backpressure. The fix is for the gas station to replace the nozzle pipes.
Your fault code may be due to habitually overfilling the tank. I see lots of people who try to get another gallon into the tank, and that puts fuel in the charcoal canister lines where it is not supposed to be. When it dries, it leaves residue that builds up and causes failures. You are supposed to stop when the nozzle clicks off once, and never fill till overflowing. It will also degrade the tank filler seal, causing an eventual leak.

Check with your dealer, some of the emission system is warranted for 8 years or 80K....and Nevada is a CARB state, so warranty is more extensive for your equipment.

I almost always go to Costco for gas. Same station for years, never having a problem. The code may indeed have been from the dreaded overfill ( but not overfilled). In other words, for me to get 10 gallons in an empty tank I had to keep trying to fill a little in at a time because the pump kept cutting off ( the same action as trying to top it, although I wasn't). I don't go to cheap gas stations and I never ever actually top off.

I live about 7 to 10 miles from anything in Reno, then I go out of the area once a week with up to 3 other golfers ( truck fits 4 comfortably and 4 sets of golf clubs ) so the miles add up quick. 41.3 mpg with a lead foot🤣.

Service done on July 10th and 11th. They replaced the Fuel Vapor Vent Valve. Cleared the codes. I've had it for 4 days and filled the gas tank with no problems. Also wanted to mention that the fuel door activation now works like its supposed to. Not sure what caused the malfunction of the part , but I'm pleased to have it working again like its supposed to.

Did they cover that under warranty? Glad you got it working like it should.
