Silverthorne CO Ford dealer is closing siting Fords decision to "restructure it's network" and also the Summit County tax structure which resulted in buyers paying more than purchasing elsewhere. So now for warranty work on my 23 XLT AWD I get to go to Denver (70 miles) or Glenwood Springs (90 miles) all while negotiating I-70's ability to shut down in a heartbeat both summer and winter. Wondering how far other forum members have to go for warranty work. Sorry, no prize for the furthest but you get bragging rights. regards

update. I did buy the Maverick in Florida then moved here. I only used the dealer for warranty work/recalls as I have a local mechanic. Rumors have a Chevy or Toyota dealer taking the spot. All new Ford inventory was removed from the lot in the last 24 hours.

11 miles down a lonely four lane highway.
Only one single stop light in between.
My Ford Dealer is King Ford. 2nd best Ford dealer I’ve dealt with. The first best was
Brandon Ford in Tampa Fla.

I have 3 dealers within 15 miles of my house. The closest is 4 miles (where I bought the Mav) the middle is about 7 miles and only use them to pick up online accessories, and the furthest one is 15 miles away and I use them for warranty and service work.

Never really thought about how I use all 3 🤣

I feel your pain on this one and is the reason I no longer own one of my vehicles and just replaced it with the Maverick. I couldn't get local service. That very much played into my decision when I was looking for the vehicle to replace it with was the proximity to dealers and the ability to get parts and service. For the Maverick the dealer I will be going to is about 15 miles, but I have at least 4 dealerships in a 50 mile radius at the very least, possibly more. Having service and support options nearby is high on my priority list. I hope you are able to find something closer. I wouldn't dare deal with that I-70 mess or anything to do with Denver. Unless I had a regular reason to be over in Denver then overlapping service with other things might be doable, but if I didn't have a reason to be over near Denver I wouldn't. I just did a quick search and you are right, there are not very many dealerships unless you are on the front range. That would make it rough.

@madhatter, since you bought your Maverick from a dealer in FL before you moved to CO, it would have been interesting if you would have paid the tax premium to buy local? In IL, no matter where the vehicle is purchased, the sales tax gets adjusted to match the county we live in, so there is no tax advantage in buying elsewhere.

OP, sorry to lose your Ford dealership. I would find a local garage - NOT a quick lube chain - to do your basic maintenance instead and you can log these visits in Fordpass if you want proof of service should any warranty repairs be required.

If you do that, I don't really see any major issues. If you have service done in Denver that takes more than one full day, you'd want to ensure you have a rental, but that's probably true even if it were local also.

The root issue is happening in many parts of the country. Property taxes are out of control and it's hurting everyone - especially retirees, and small businesses. By small I mean large enough to own their own buildings, but not a chain.

Sounds to me like the owner is taking advantage of a buyout offer from Ford and cashing in

Unless you're in the middle of BFE there's no way a Ford dealer can't make ends meet while the next closest dealer is 70 miles away

I did buy it in Florida thinking I would have had delivery before I even moved. Ordered it Sept 2022 and it wasn't built until Oct 2023 as we all experienced at the time. Delivered in Nov 2023. Moved from Florida in May 2023. Florida dealer shipped it to me as we couldn't change the delivery to Silverthorne and they paid for shipping and my initial Colorado registration. Current Summit County sales tax rate is about 8.25%. State of Colorado's rate is 2.9% but counties, cities, towns add to it.

That kind of sucks.
I acknowledge the inconvenience.
But
There is the trade-off.
In my opinion you get to drive through some of the most beautiful country in the United States in order to visit your dealers especially driving through Glenwood Canyon to the Springs.
I 70 through Glenwood canyon

In answer to your question.
In the summertime, when we are in Utah. It is 40 miles down the mountain to a dealership in Cedar City. In the winter time when we're in Nevada it's 109-120 miles to one of the 4 dealerships owned by 2 families in Las Vegas.

No doubt it is beautiful county and why we put up with the inconveniences to live in the mountains.

I have 4 dealers within a 40 mile radius. One is unfriendly to say the best, one is totally a POS; bad service and sales. One I haven't tried and the one I have used for 6 buys, great place; Elk Grove Ford in Elk Grove CA

I have 3 dealers within 30 miles of my house. The farthest one west of me is where I traded in a vehicle to buy a Ranger. Now this deal was on a Friday and I told them that I didn't need to buy it that day as I didn't want to pickup tomorrows newspaper and see a $1000 off. They assured me that that was not going to happen - next morning in the paper you guessed it, $1000 off. They would not give me that grand. Never took that truck there for service and would never ever buy a vehicle from them again. I deal with Champion Ford Erie/Edinboro PA. I have been purchasing from them since 2009 and my 2025 Lariat Maverick is the 5th truck I have bought from them. I have never had to quibble about a deal as I'm great with what I'm offered. For instance when I went in to pickup my Maverick my guy says by the way you have gotten another $500 off. I don't know why as I had or have not ever been notified as to why I got it but you can bet for sure that that dealer further west would not have told me. At 79 I don't think I'll be buying another truck but if I do it will be from Champion Ford Erie/Edinboro

no dealership would. zero.

so, unfortunate timing, but you're kidding yourself if you think any dealership in the country would do otherwise UNLESS they have a written company policy or state law requiring it.

in my state you have 3 days to return a car - intended to protect against buyer's remorse or high-pressure sales - but even with that they would not blink. they would make you actually return the vehicle and then they would not give you a better deal if you were so foolish as to try to buy again immediately from them.
